Need pictures of Navigator/Passenger seats

I am looking to add a Navigator/Passenger seat for my beautiful wife to sit in while I drive. The one draw back to a bus as opposed to an RV, is no seat for her.
I would like for her to be able to sit next to me while we drive, and not have to have her back in a dinette or couch style seat that is side facing.

My bus is a conventional, International 1985 Bluebird. Its an Auto so no shifter in the way.

What have you all done? Any pictures?

Someone in another of the build threads had an idea for dropping a floor plate over the stairwell that had a seat attached to it some way but would pivot out of the way to lift the plate out to use the exit door. Not sure if it ever came to fruition.

One Nation Under Goat has the coolest/safest copilot seat I've seen. Folds away when not in use, too!

I am going to reuse the emergency exit seat that was in my bus. It folds up when there is no weight holding it down. I will try to post pics later. I have to fabricate some type of foot rest that comes out when the seat is folded down.

That sounds like a really nifty idea and good use of available resources.
I've not seen one of these seats, so definitely get us some PICS!

My seat right by the side emergency door doesn't automatically fold up when not in use but it can be lifted up to gain easier access to the door. I'll have to take a pic of it when I get over to the storage yard again.

Thanks for the replies. I really like the fold up seat, but my bus did not come with one of those, so I would have to hunt one down.
At this point my best idea is to get a seat from a 60/40 split bench and use the 60 side, and attach it to the seat frame I have for the driver. That way my wife can sit next to me. I will attach it to the frame and make a support to hold it up on the passenger side.
I am open to other ideas though.

I added a small top to the wall, enough room for her stuff and to write/draw on.

Enough room on the top for a bunch of flowers and more.

I do like that, however mine is a conventional style and I would like her to sit next to me. I want to be able to touch her, not have her 5 feet behind me. After being married 25 years I still really like her

Yay, Oldmopars! I feel the same way about my wife. I would much prefer her to be close.

I pulled the driver's seat and passenger side middle seat from a nice minivan. Had to weld some attachment points on both but that was no big deal. The driver's seat has full electric adjustments and the passenger seat has arm rests and can lean back a bit. The passenger seat is fully forward (short bus) near the conventional folding door and I'll have a carpeted fold-down board over the stairwell for her feet. Maybe even a foot rest built in. I'll curve the side of the fold-down so that the door can be opened and closed without raising but will always raise it to go down the stairs. I welded in tubular steel columns near each seat for shoulder belt mounts.

Van seats are comfortable and cheap. I got mine for $50 at a You-pull-it.

Regards!

Ross

Holy crap I've got the same issue....dog nose bus as well.

Similar idea as rossfree, I've got an air ride seat coming from a straight truck they blew up....it's out having the box removed and put on a new chassis. Seat was recovered a couple of years ago, in decent shape and has two arm rests and a high back.

The plan is to build a pedestal like the drivers side about 2 inches high the width of the stair case and as deep as the opening. Then install two heavy duty [already have] rollers, like a filing cabinet/tool box drawer inside the pedestal. Then build a pull out drawer like a cutting board the shape of the stair case opening that pulls out and sits on the lip to support it...will lock in place so it can't open by accident and have someone fall down the stairs. Probably make it out of aluminum checker plate to match the stairs and floor. That will put my honey close without her being in my passenger mirror, she can sit up high and still see out the windows with optional air for ride and height. Can pump it up hard or drain completely ....air ride without a steering wheel to hang on to is a little different ride.

FWIW, we pass things back and forth and can converse without issue.

Good one CB.
