Re: Newbie questions about my build!

My project has been put on hold for a bit unfortunately. Still trying to get a hold of a good rust converter. Hopefully I'll have more to report soon and will focus on starting an actual build thread.

I picked up a couple of jugs of Corroseal at the semi-local marine supply shop yesterday. I asked the guy if there was any difference between Ospho and Corroseal in their capabilities, and he basically said its user preference and cost- 20-ish for the Ospho versus 47 for the Corroseal. The non-acid base of Corroseal was my appeal over Ospho.

Re: Newbie questions about my build!

The acid is what etches the galvanized surface to allow the coating to adhere. I went with Ospho on my bus with coating of Rustoleum pro primer and top coat. Worked great.

http://www.corroseal.com/contact/faq.aspx

Can Corroseal be used on galvanized steel?

Since galvanized steel is coating with zinc to prevent corrosion, Corroseal is not effective over non rusted galvanized steel. If the galvanized steel is rusted, do a test application to determine if there is enough rust present for Corroseal to be effective. The Corroseal will not bond properly if the galvanized steel is not sufficiently rusted.

Then in reality, Corroseal should not be used on any bus that was galvanized. You would end up with spots the paint will not stick to.

Great info guys, I had a fellow skoolie member try to send me some Ospho from the US, but it was returned to him. I guess I have to hunt some down in Canada.

Check your local Canadian Tire, Home Depot, Lowe's? If you're close to the border, you could pop across and slip some back. Or if you're close to the coast, the Great Lakes, etc., check your local marine supply house.

I didn't check Lowe's, but I didn't find any at Home Depot. It's not listed on the Canadian Home Depot website either, like it is on the US one. Canadian Tire, Lowes and Rona all come up with nothing online as well.

I unfortunately don't live near the coast or near any border cities in the US, but I appreciate the suggestions!

looks like another one that's impossible to find in Canada, at least according to online resources.

Getting kind of ridiculous really!

Cloverdale Paint for Corroseal

Check your local NAPA for Permatex (no link, sorry)

Eastwood will ship their Rust Converter to Canada as well

Edited, removed Rust Check
