Newbie size question

Ive read the thread about counting the windows and have mastered that (try to hold your gets better!)
What I cant figure out is why a 42 pax, 48 pax and 54 pax bus all have 9 windows....sometimes.
Sometimes a 42pax has 11.

I'd like a 9 window bus (assuming that's roughly 30 ft) I think that's big enough for me. It's just making hunting for one a little complicated as I cant search by passenger at all.

Does this change the inside layout at all? Im asking as these buses Im looking at are up for auction, all seem to go for the same price range and, externally, seem to look pretty much the same.
Why the passenger difference?

Passengers come in different sizes. Seating arrangements are counted differently

Also, if there is handicapped seating, the stated capacity will be lower.....I've seen a lot of 8 windows with a capacity of 24 or some such.

I'm in the same boat. You really have to see pics or lay eyes on it yourself.

the passengers listed are different because handicap busses have some of the seats removed and have wheel-chair rails instead.. also many handicap busses have narrower seats so that wheelchairs can be rolled around..

in busses that have built in child-safety seats the passenger count is less as those seats accomodate less people...

on a regular run of the mill school bus.. each seat is designed to hold 3 people(kids) except usually the back most seat on one side by the emergency door...

each seat is designed to hold 2 adults in most..

so a 9 row bus would be 9 rows of 6 people(2 seats per row).. minus 1 for the last row only seating 5.. +1 for the driver... alas Cspacity 54... school busses are usually listed for the child capacity as opposed to adult..

many schools also re-seated busses as they wished also for their needs... so you have wierd capacities out there... bus seats were pretty easy to move around esp on busses that had chair rails.. and some that had full-track seating..(rare on a skoolie more common on a coach or city transit bus)
