Yes, changing the gear ratio in the rear differential to decrease the engine RPM.

When I bought the bus it would go 65mph just below the governor, not ideal for the engine and horrible for fuel economy.

Stay away from anything with an EGR valve or Dpf system. That should pretty much cover it. For the most part, anything 2005 and newer.

Thank you! The ones I'm looking at were made right around 2000, so that should be before those became standard.

The dt466e, doesn't mean emissions control. Some have it, some don't. I haven't seen what it looks like on a bus, I ask before I go look at them.
I think once you get to the maxforce 466 you start seeing the emissions control.
