Question passenger door conversions?

Hey hey, first post! (don't worry I will have a thread shortly to show off my 1984 Chevy shortie!)

What have people done to eliminate the often large and awkward door actuator that extends from the door to the driver? I'm looking for ideas since right now the door stays shut using bungee cords... I installed a captains chair beside the drivers seat so there is no room for the hardware anymore. I was thinking just a simple gate bolt that goes into the floor. What have you experienced converters done?

Did you ever figure it out? I'm stuck in the same boat and I can't find a solution. I can't weld, so the whole 1-piece door "solution" isn't viable.

I have learned that the doors can't be anchored to each other - that I need to find some way to anchor the doors to something in the interior.

Gotcha, it's like mine then. I'm not sure which way I'm going with door, but since I'm not driving mine while building I just slapped a lock on it until I figure out what I'm doing. You could do the same on the inside to hold it if you removed the arm. Might be some wiggle

There is metal underneath half of the rubber strip where it is mounting on the left side on mine, so all 4 screws are secured

I haven't done it yet?
Even though I weld for a living I am choosing not to because I don't want to take the chance of messing up the glass whether welding close to it covered or chipping/cracking it while removing/installing it.
My idea to change that style door to a single door without welding is to keep the door arm and hardware on the right hand door.
Remove the hinge on the left of the left hand door and use two pieces of 16-guage sheetmetal bent in a U shape to fit the door thickness and riveted together in the middle then slide onto the right hand door and slide the left hand door in with sealant of course.
Close the door and adjust as wanted then screw it in place with 1/8" self drilling screws inside and out.
Bear with me.
Then pull each screw and pop rivet the hole?
The screw is your drill bit and allows for you to fit and place whatever and the hole is a touch tight for a rivet but it saves several drill bits and the screws can be used again as permanent fasteners if needed.
Just my idea?
Haven't figured out the door gasket on the left side yet cause I haven't done it yet.
I have an idea but not ready to share it until I do my own and know it keeps water out?
Sorry
