I don't have time to put thru roof right now

Re: PLUMBING QUESTION, VENT RELATED

One more post to correct my "senior moment" post from yesterday. I was thinking about the HEPVO waterless vent as I was merrily typing "cheader vent". The Hepvo is a waterless trap that keeps sewer gases from coming back into the room and at the same time providing it's own vent. A pretty slick product. The cheader vent takes the place of a through-the-roof vent and is used together with a standard P-trap. As my little nephew used to say, "me a meathead."

http://www.hepvo.com/

You may need a vent down at the 3" shutoff valve or the water from a flush may temporarily run up against a plug of compressed air and the air in front of the flush may try to vent back UP through the sink vent.

Instead of running my tank vent through the roof I brought the 1/2" vinyl tube up through the floor for 1 1/2' then looped it back down and out the floor again. It's only grey water but so far no problems with water sloshing up into the tube.

Re: PLUMBING QUESTION, VENT RELATED

Sitting in chair getting magnesium , then onto lowes

I was looking at home, our kitchen sink doesn't have a vent?

The bathrooms appear to, where would I vent the galley at?

I planned to run a s trap, and then run it through the wall and through under bed storage and then through floor into the top of the 3in sewer pipe

The 3in will run from side to side behind rear tires drivers side will have the gate valve, the 1-1/2 drain from galley then across to a connector for tube drain, and then to a T for toilet and a clean out

From toilet down through a connector with 1-1/2 vent that will go out the passenger side, the toilet will mount on top of the prior connector

Will this work?

Or will it empty the traps for sink and tube?

Did that make since?

The kitchen sink vent is likely inside the wall. Go outside and look for a vent stack poking through the roof.

Where vents are concerned, you gotta think about what's happening inside the pipe. Water draining through the pipe will either be a slow flow like you would get from a partially open faucet or it will be a big blast of water like from a toilet flush. The slow flow will only partially fill the drain pipe and air is free to flow within the pipe. Having no vents in this case would not be a problem. The big blast from the toilet will tend to run a slug of water down the drain which acts like a plunger sucking air behind it and pushing air in front of it. That's where you need vents on both ends of the drain pipe, one at the tank end (or at the shutoff valve in your case) to vent the air being pushed down the pipe, and another at the appliance end to allow air into the pipe.

Looking at your original drawing, you need vents upstream of the toilet (Your 1 1/2" drain should be fine) and down near the shutoff valve at least (I would think a 1" vent would be plenty). With no vent at the shutoff end the last sink drain will tend to get compressed air when the toilet flushes. The Hepvo valve will seal in this case but a water trap will be blown up into the sink along with a big stink.

Ain't plumbing fun?

Re: PLUMBING QUESTION, VENT RELATED

okay meet a plumbing guy in parking lot of Lowes, he had a BFL on his work truck, so Iparked were he could see mine and introduced myself

He remembered my chemo thread overthere and I picked his brain about what I wanted to do

I told him what I wanted to do with only one vent at toilet, he said it would work fine if I put an extension down from the toilet to the vent and into a 90* (I have a couple feet down drop to play with)

he said with the 1.5 gallon flush that will "spread" the water out and allow alot more air above it in the 3" pipe space v/s volume or somethuing

He did say that if the wind was blowing about 40 mph and we flushed the toilet it would suck all the traps dry so dont poop going down the road

So I will post more pics this weekend, I just cut more holes in floor and have galley sink draining out bottom of bus behind the tires....I can pour oil down the drain at tail gaters now ...J/K epa folks

Water heater is mounted and hooked up....hopefully test it this weekend

c-ya'll...back to the bus

Re: PLUMBING QUESTION, VENT RELATED

Plumbing 101 from an Old plumber,
1) you can't have to many vents.
2) you can't have to many vents.
ok first point use a rv knife valve, a gate vale will not close if paper or any solid gets in the gate seat. better choice is a ball valve if you go residential parts.
A vent between the toilet and the rest of the system should do, preferably to the outside.
It sounds like your kitchen line may be a bit long. if over 5 ft. use a studor vent ( mechanical air vent) under sink.
Guaranteed if you flush with the outlet valve closed you will hear traps burp.

Yep I am new here and just starting my search for a bus.
This site has already been a great help, keep the info comming

Jeffro / Borday , whatever just don't call me late for dinner.

Ditto for NC. And SC. And GA. We used ball valves with teflon coated balls in it. Why does that sound dirty?
