refridgerator

I want to put a fridge in the Bus. Whats a good fridge to get, that has a resonable price tag? Also how much power do these things use? How long will a battery last before it doesnt provide enough for the fridge?

If you want an RV style fridge, they're pretty pricy brand new. Start around $800. Look on E-bay and if there is an RV salvage in your area, that's a good place too. I don't know how you would rig one to run off of a battery. Mine either runs off of electricity or propane. It doesn't take much propane at all to keep one cool. I think they used to make fridges that ran off of 12VDC. I haven't seen any new ones though. Word is, the 12V fridges SUCK. Get one that runs off of propane if you have a propane system in your bus. I just use my college dorm sized "sin fridge" in the bus. It runs off my inverters just fine. In fact, we ran the fridge, stereo, lights, tv, PS2, etc for 12 hours straight off just the two golf cart batteries rated at 110 minutes reserve with a 75 amp draw. Either those batteries are severely under rated or it just plain doesn't draw that much. I wouldn't push it much further than that, but I know the bus popped off like a charm the next morning and I don't have my isolator hooked up yet. The fridge is even a terribly inefficient R12 unit that draws 1.2 amps and runs QUITE frequently. If you can get by with a small amount of fridge space for the sensitive stuff while using coolers for things like beverages that tolerate water and temperature changes better, I would recommend that.
