I took mine off, repaired all of the rust and then covered it with carpet cut from bathroom carpet mats, these have a rubber backing preventing water from leaking through to the metal.

We used some roll in bed liner on steps a few weeks ago on a 1994 ford eldorado body. Its a spare bus in a small fleet. So far it's holding up good.

I fabricated step covers out of polished aluminum treadplate, looks cool, if I do say so myself. I'll get pics up soon

I don't have a photo handy, but i used 1/8" diamond plate aluminum. It looked cool, and is non-slip.

I've used rubber hallway runner, it's ribbed, black or brown in color. I've used it to replace the floor in my old Ranger, and the treads of my GoldWing foot rests.

Contact cement seems to work best.

These folks have real replacement bus parts.

But it'd probably be cheaper and better looking to do it yourself with one of the methods/materials already mentioned. I like the diamond plate.

PS: I like seeing the progress of your project so far. What computer program did you use to render the 3-d layout of your bus?
