Retrofit a Wheelchair Lift
Hello all, this is my first post here.
Apologies in advance for the length, I wanted to give some background info.
My father has an aquaintence who is selling his personally-owned 1992 Bluebird CV200.
It is standard length, DT360, Allison AT545, was never a public school bus, runs great, etc.
During the summer, my dad and I drag-race and we need a way of hauling our "bikes" to races throughout VA and WV.
I've always been a school bus geek, so I suggested we purchase the CV200 for this purpose (it has plenty of room inside for hauling and tinkering and even taking shelter when it rains, plus buses are cool).
No guarantees yet, but I'm pretty sure we're the only ones to make an offer on the bus.
Now- how do you load an ATV into a school bus?
Ramps through the rear e-door would work, but that's no fun!
My original idea was to cut out the back of the bus, and make it a big fold-down door, but I just had this idea last night-
What if we retrofit a wheelchair lift onto the bus?
There are a few bus graveyards in the state, so I am wondering if this would be a feasible project?
The CV200 was insanely popular around here in the 90's, so it won't be hard to find a door/lift and install it.
What concerns me is finding the functioning hydraulic system, and the lack of documentation/schematics for it.
I have seen a few people around the net (and skoolie) selling lifts, but I don't know what installing it fresh on a normal bus would entail.
Opinions?
Is this too cumbersome of a project for the payout?
Like I said, I don't even have the bus yet, so I'm just throwing ideas around until she is mine to tinker with.
