Should I get this Partially done Skoolie?
Hey all,
Been lurking in here for a couple of years-but not yet a proud owner of a bus.
I found a partially converted school bus from someone selling on craigslist.
The thing is... is they want $11,000 which seems SUPER expensive given it all. At least to my knowledge and research.. but I'm also a novice.
I have been specifically looking for a bus with a DT466 engine (which this has)and Alison mt643 transmission (don't want to drive a 40 footer otherwise I'd go with a 8.3l cummins) . Plan to drive around the US for 6 months or so... so I need for it to be driving like a beast for a bit.
Stats:
1988 Bluebird International School Bus
They weren't too sure about the engine/transmission. It says MT653 North Trends on a picture they sent (including some pics they sent me in here)
Bus is already registered as RV in state of California.
Dognose Model
32 feet long, 8 feet wide (approx. 200 square feet inside)
181,000 miles
Re-manufactured engine in 2001
Roof raise of 14 inches brings it to a total height of 12 feet, including the height of the rack. They said they planned to live in it with their so you can bet that we prepared everything with much care and attention but can't anymore. It's ready to be driven away, however there is still some work to do to make it fully water tight.<--- nervous as I'm not a welder and dont know of any welders...
Standing room inside the bus is 7 feet 5 inches
The Inside has been completely gutted
Other perks Included:
Solar system: 4 panels, 100 Watts each, includes energy storage system (4, 6-volt deep cycle batteries), and Inverter
Two 30-gallon water tanks
Four 6-ton jacks
Spare metal sheeting, steel bar and wood for additional projects
Anyway, seems a little steep in price... but then again they did raise the roof and they're including the solar system and tanks etc. They need to sell by middle of May. I gotta ask about tires still too.. otherwise that would be an extra cost for me. Included are some pics.
