Sideview mirrors

The standard black sideview mirrors are a hideous, IMO, at least for what I have in mind. The overly intricate framework, that fails to keep them stationary, detracts from the clean, flowing lines of my Gillig.

That being my mindset, my searches have yet to turn up anything that strikes my fancy. I'm shooting for the Art Deco look (think GM Silversides meets Gillig Transit Coach) and I'd like to find some that have a large mirror fit into a rounded, polished or chromed housing. Not exactly cartoonish, but the bigger the better.

Has anyone ever seen something that fits this description? I'm on the verge of just making my own, but I figured I'd check with you folks first.

Something like this? These are the stock Prevost side mirrors. They're available in brushed or polished. Should find plenty of units in bone yards.

Funny you should mention...

I have been playing with the idea of a pair of teardrop spotlights or even headlamp buckets to house a pair of large, round mirrors.

Streamlined is good!

I'm using matte black mirrors from a '07 Mack, they're plastic of sorts and don't have to be painted...ever.

You could use some chrome/stainless mirrors off a Volvo, Peterbilt, Western Star, etc....or are those to big for what you're shootin' for?

I like the tall, skinny mirrors. Preferably mounted from the top to keep me from banging my head on them.

24" tall X 8" wide would be just about ideal, but obviously they wouldn't have to be perfect if they looked good and functioned as I need them to.

I really hate mirrors that aren't proportional to the size of the rig they're on. I've got a lot of realestate I need to keep under control, it'd be nice to actually be able to see it.

Uh..... A not so funny story last ball season. 4 hours before his senior prom.

Son got put in pitching last inning for a game they were not going to win, so needless to say he was pretty agitated about getting credited for the loss (instead of leaving him off the mound)

After game, He's angry... Walks back to bus, slides driver's window and flips the door switch... He's 6'4", and hit his head on the dog ear mirror walking around front of bus. Punched the window of door and busted it.

He sent me a message, "I hit my head on bus mirror, punched the glass door and busted it... Coach P says I gotta pay for it"

I simply replied "I agree"

The thing that makes me think hard.... He's right handed and punched door with his left hand... Not sure if I wanna take a punch from him!
