Re: Skinning...Sheet metal, where, what and why?

Not that I'm aware of. If you're concerned about surface finish, galvannealed metal has a nice smooth finish.

Re: Skinning...Sheet metal, where, what and why?

Thanks dentarthurdent for reviving this post. I hadn't seen it before. Just today I ordered 6 sheets of 20 ga. paint-lock for my skin. Should be here Thur. Will be finished welding about then and be ready to apply. As a sidebar, I see a lot of talk about caulks on this forum and haven't seen any mention of NP-1, NP-1 is the baddest caulk on earth IMHO and I will be using it pretty much everywhere I need to use caulk. It's a urethane caulk that all metal roofers(at least the ones in this area) and many in the sheet metal world swear by. Adheres much better than silicone and stays resilient longer without releasing . Will be great for all joints and pretty much every where else. So for your joints or other areas dentarthurdent, check the local roofing suppliers or talk to some local sheet metal shops if you are interested. Can't wait to here how your project turns out.

Re: Skinning...Sheet metal, where, what and why?

Hey guys,

Sorry for hijacking this thread, but I was wondering about the appropriate thickness, of aluminum, for skinning windows.

Thanks for any help.

aluminun is usually referred to by thickness in inches. I'd recommend .040 to .063

Thanks Brad, for he information. I'm still trying to decide whether I want to skin the windows or just keep them painted.

Thanks again.

You're welcome! I'm still trying to decide that also. However, I did recently buy some rv windows, so skinning is looking possible.

Re: Skinning...Sheet metal, where, what and why?

I wish you luck on the skinning and putting in the windows. I'm going to wait until I'm able to get some low priced RV windows before I decide to skin my. Besides, I kind of like the look of my present windows (not to mention, it's a lot less work ).

Thanks again,

Robert
