Skoolie Water Tanks

I’m brand new to the skoolie world and trying to look at things with a different set of eyes.

I’ve worked out some aspects, but the plumbing is the big part that’s causing me heartburn.

A few questions:

1) can you put a freshwater tank on the top of a skoolie (rack supported). Will the sun create an issue with the water through the plastic tank?
2) would the height of the tank provide small water pressure?
3) otherwise where would a freshwater tank go under a skoolie?

Hey Nicolia,

Tanks on the roof are not a particularly good idea. Water weighs 8# per gallon. The weight adds up quickly.

As far as gravity feed/pressure: IIRC: for every foot of fall you gain.0.4 psi. Not enough to do anything with if you only have a few feet of fall.

In my current build I am putting my fresh water tank under the bed and my grey tank under the bus.

That'd be a good place if you plan to spend time in freezing conditions.

In South Texas it might freeze twice a year...for about 5 minutes.

Here in E Central TX, the only freeze warnings worthy of the name involve not leaving warm beer in the freezer for too long...

I doubt you would ever have cold water in the summer.

The residual water in my shaded garden hose is considerably cooler than that what replaces it from the mains.
Seconding PNW's notes. NOT a good idea having hundreds of pounds sloshing around at the highest point!
Don't know where it hailed from, the prior owner bought it before his fiancee torpedoed the Skoolie dream, but, I have a roto-molded fresh water tank that fits perfectly between the batt box and the ladder frame rails.
Kinda small tho, at 30 gals.
