Re: Slide outs
Ya my bus still needed so much work - it was a good time to let it go, I want to promote the new CNG buses and to own one.
An 87 yr old and a 76 yr old headed out of town driving the yankeflyer and everyone seemed happy.

Ol Trunt, you are granted an exception from the boondoggle clause since you are restoring an antique. That thing has a "cool factor" that trumps all other practical considerations. All skoolies have a cool factor to some degree, but mine not so much as yours.

Re: Slide outs
Diesel Dan, Thanks for the exemption! I'd have to say that I agree that all SKOOLIES have a cool factor. The trick for each of us is to recognize how to display this cool through our individual builds--I see cool things all through this forum.
While I love working on my old bus, it sure would be fun to build out a late model pusher with a FF and all kinds of under floor bins etc., etc., there are just so many cool things to do with all that space but I have no long term way to deal with a big bus so I will continue to strive for cool in 22 feet. Re: Slide outs
I got to agree with DD, sometimes you have to know when to stop, $$ becomes a factor but mostly you no longer have the full safety structure of the bus, that was the most inportant reason why i built a bus. But with that be said, how cool would it be to have slides on a bus
good luck

Re: Slide outs
GB, Yep there is that. I'm designing my slide out so that it does not modify any of the original side support structure--it sort of amounts to enough space to put your feet out the side of the bus when the bed is folded out. Jack

Re: Slide outs
The easiest way to build sliders is probably a pair of greased pipes, one sliding in the other. The best way to build sliders is probably square tubing with sealed bearing rollers top and botton, one rolling in the other. Look at as many slide outs as you can at the RV dealers etc. You will be surprised at how simply they are made.

Re: Slide outs
I want to build a slide out in my next skoolie. I would like to take a close look at the sliders on kitchen cabinet drawers and simply scale it up. C channel and ball bearing rollers.

Go look at what Rocky built from scratch in the link I posted. Nice detailed pics.

Just don't use actual cabinet slides. I still can't believe that Galey even mentioned that in his book!
