Sliding tempered glass door replacement?

Is it ok to use a tempered glass sliding door as my front door?

My local resale shop has an Andersen window for cheap and I'm wondering if I can't just make some cutouts and add hinges and a lock to use as my front door. I'd also add a vertical and 3 or 4 horizontal bars inside, but mostly for aesthetic reasons. I've seen a couple glass door skoolies on Pinterest and wondering if it's a good idea in real life.

A number of folks here have used similar doors and have had good success.

I have heard that doing so is against DOT regs but have not confirmed that.

I'm curious, do you mean your outside front door? I was thinking about using a glass door and wall to separate the living space from the driver's area. It was just a thought, but the outside door would be interesting too.

Most vehicles use tempered glass for sides and safety glass (laminated with a plastic core) for ends.
I'm not sure how using this door for your front door would be out of conformance with DOT regs unless it's because of visibility issues.

I have been told that auto glass must be DOT approved.

I have not confirmed this but I have noticed that the 23 pieces of auto glass in my driveway all have "DOT approved" stamped on them.

Do you mean "good success" in that they didn't break? Do you remember who used a sliding door for their bus?

I don't see why it wouldn't work. Sure it's not DOT approved but it shouldn't take a direct hit since it's on the side of the bus.

where I live, all glass in vehicles, trailers, pickup caps, motor homes, etc, MUST be safety glass - I'm sure a glass door would be fine if the glass was safety glass - I've had a steal door and frame in mind for my bus ( once I get it ), and turning it into a glass door like the one you pictured using safety glass
