Smoothing out a modified sine wave AC signal

Decided to post this in it's own thread, rather than in the electrical help one. Has anyone experimented with smoothing out a modified sine wave signal? In theory shouldn't the right size capacitor do just that?

Re: Smoothing out a modified sine wave AC signal

Problem with a modified sine wave inverter is its a stepped voltage. To date I have never heard of anyone smoothing one out for less money then an equivelent sine wave inverter.

The other poster is correct.
You also would have to tear apart the oscillator and up the freq. and other mods the"smooth" the MSW converter - then after all that you would now have a sine wave inverter.

Better to buy one it the first place or where you can run things off of 12 volts.

Computers laptop no problem; desktop you would have to change out the AC power supply and install a DC to DC power supply - you can find them on eBay.

TV LCD etc. There are ones made to run on 12v but are expensive.
I am getting up enough courage to open my LCD TV after the warranty expires and after the power supply check the voltage and current; if workable make a 12v supply using DC power supply.
