We visited a couple with an off-grid cabin. In winter, they had tried tilting their PV and solar heat collectors vertical to catch the sun off of the snow.
The result was that the PV made electricity, but the water did not get hot. Apparently a metallic reflector is required to transfer solar heat, painted wood/cardboard or snow doesn't cut it. But they do reflect electricity-producing light. At another cabin we visited, the owner said her TriMetric was recording a trickle charge reflected off of a full moon!
