Spray foam installer/contractor recommendation? (WA)
Hey Everyone,
I have been looking for an insulation contractor to spray the inside of our 5 window E450 cutaway.
I have called the ones that I could find locally and 3 of them said "sorry we don't do vehicles" or something similar.
The last one sent me a quote for almost $1800 for about 400 board feet of material installed. When I questioned the price he told me that $1800 is his minimum charge.
Anyone out there know of an installer/contractor in Washington State that they can recommend?
Thanks.
S.

I don't, but goah for $1800 you could buy R100 and make a walk in freezer out of the bus.
However; that may very well be going rate, i do not know.
Good luck!
Others should be along shortly to help.

When I was in Bellevue I had an installer in Kent that quoted less than half
that amount if I drove it to his place. You might call around to the trailer/
container repair people and see if they can do the job. They respray
insulated containers that are damaged as well as reefer trailers. Also do
a check on craigslist.

Hey Dave,
That has been a consideration but I have heard mixed reviews on the various kits and don't yet have a good handle on the "good" ones vs the "bad" ones.
Which foam/kit did you use? Any tip or pointers if we should go this route?
Thanks.
S.

I had a lot of trouble finding someone to spray my bus down here in S. Florida. I called 7 or 8 different vendors made 5 appointments, only one guy showed and measured, but then never sent me a quote.
I ended up using polyiso boards to insulate.

I have been surprised at how much trouble I am having finding a contractor.
One of the routes we are considering is a small DIY kit to just "skim coat" the walls etc and then pressing cut pieces of foam board in place.
I like the R value of the polysianurate but am concerned about the fumes it can produce when exposed to heat/fire. Probably go with XPS instead.

Kent, WA here.
I considered going the spray foam route for about a day (kinda wish I tried harder on that, kinda okay with how everything turned out). I called about 20 places and got a bunch of "nope, don't work on vehicles". I wanted to click into this thread to reassure myself that it was as difficult as I remember it being. Best of luck though, if you want any insulation scraps I have a lot of stuff you can have once I'm done (in 3 weeks). (most of it fits inside buckets). If you're looking for 1/2" xps foam though, I found a place that carries it. If you want a hand spray foaming your bus, I'd love to help out so I can learn at your expense . Best of luck!

Touch 'n Seal U2-600 Spray Closed Cell Foam Insulation Kit 600BF | eBay
this is the kit i used, real easy to use, lots of tips. i kept moving around doing it in layers. after a few minutes you figure out the speed and distance to spray. now im putting 1/2 " foam board over that for a thermal break between the ribs and the t&g ceiling. also it made the bus quiet.

If we go the DIY route that looks like the most reasonably priced kit I have seen and knowing that it worked well for you is a big plus.
Maybe we can tap you for "hints & tips" before we start spraying??

Thursday I found that I could sign up for Yelp and send an RFQ to all of the insulation contractors listed on their site at once. I did and the results have been a bit disappointing.
The universal response has been: "Sorry we don't do that sort of project"
