test my wiring for shore power without 30 or 50amp hook up??

can i just make a male to male extension cord to plug into the bus 110 system and make sure my wiring all works as it should?? i dont have a 50amp hook up at home and want to know i got it right... any ideas?

If you mean an extension cord with a male plug on each end----don't even consider it as it is very dangerous!!!! Rather than doing that, make up a pigtail you can wire directly to your 120 v circuit breakers and put a male plug on the end of it to plug into a regular extension cord. Be sure to correctly wire the hot, neutral and ground wires correctly. Get a circuit tester at Harbor Freight or somewhere and check your house circuit before you power up your bus and then check the bus.

Here is a pic of the tester in action after I put an outside receptacle in Honeysuckle Rose. Jack

Jester. Don't wire your bus shore power the way you suggested. The neutral does not connect to the ground bar, it actually goes back to the source of the electricity. Read the following info for a simple explanation of 120 v wiring. Hope this helps. Jack

no no , i hear ya! white goes to the neutral bar, then ground to the ground bar. my bad didn't separate them well in the sentence. is that what you mean?
any way i totally smell what your steppin in. just wire my temp test source of 110 directly to breaker to test it, not the spicy way i described.
still just not sure why it didn't work though, i tried it today and couldn't get power out of any of the outlets. will try the direct to breaker route tomorrow.

Jester, if someone did that, its very likely that someone else would pick up the cord at a later date thinking it to be a normal extension cord and get zapped big time. Further, if the hot and neutral wires were to be exchanged, you would get an error reading on your tester (about a $3 item so get one). If some other wiring error occurred, the circuit breaker (fuse) in your house would blow. You can give your bus 120 v system a "dry run" by ringing out each receptacle as well as the breaker box. on side note, that death cord, the unnamed but initials are jester, built earlier will make a killer worm getter for fishing. plug one end in the yard then the other in the house.....wait , unplug then go get all the worms that ran like hell from it!!
