Theoretical question: what if I installed a Prius AC unit in my school bus?

So about 7 years ago I used to sell cars for Toyota for a couple of years. I briefly remember one of the training sessions where they had talked about how the AC unit in a Toyota Prius was different than other cars. First of all it worked by running off of DC power. And was more efficient than a regular car's air conditioning system. Recently I've been wondering if I could scrap the air conditioning system from an old Prius and run it, say in the bedroom of my skoolie, off of DC power from the solar panels and maybe a battery or two.

In the UK, AC for the Land Rover Discovery used to be a dealer-fit option. It was horribly expensive to have the dealer fit it, but resellers had plenty of OEM kits. I picked one up for about $900 (in pounds), and fitted it myself.

If anyone could get hold of one of those kits it would probably be easy to adapt it to a bus.
