There is a good listing in this auction... Might be an option if you want to go to Alabama...

. Mechanical drivetrain - Nope
. Bigger engine - Yep
. Better than AT545 - Yep
. Air conditioning - Yes but they don't mention if it works!
- Dual air conditioning - Unknown, I only see one in the photos
- Undercarriage storage - nope
- Air ride - Not mentioned, probably not
- Air brakes hold air - Not mentioned
- Newer tires - Not mentioned, probably not
- Low miles - Nope
- Newer batteries - Not mentioned
- Clean interior - Well I don't actually see any mcdonalds bags
- Intact cockpit - Nope those switches are busted up
- Nice comfy driver's seat - Nope that seat is nasty
- Good overall condition - Yep
- HIgh headroom - Not mentioned but common on handy buses
- Includes service records - Not mentioned, probably not

These are the factors that separate a $1500 bus from a $5000 bus.

If the tires are crap, that's $2500 on the low side. If the air conditioner doesn't work, that's $500-$1000 to fix. If it uses big batteries, a replacement set could run $900. if the air system leaks you can spend hundreds just figuring out where it leaks from... You get the idea.

As Christopher mentioned, if you're not using the AC, you're barking up the wrong tree, If you ARE using the AC, and especially if it's a single unit, you better make sure that thing makes it snow in there because 2% of the cooling might make it to the driver from there.

Overall I'm laughing at their asking price for a bus that doesn't tick my boxes. Around half their asking price would be good if most of the "unknown" items on my list were changed to Yep. If they get them all (they don't) then $5500 starts to make sense.
What he said.!!! Buying a bus anywhere or any way with out inspecting it yourself is like rolling the dice. Are you aware that if your Air Brakes fail; then the rear wheels lock up?

PASS PASS PASS on this bus.

A lot of CO districts spec high HP engines with magnetic driveline retarders, high headroom, air ride, etc.
I have had a Colorado bus and it was nice and they took good care of it.
I agree. Any bus that has a Brake Retarder is a plus.

Anyone can be telling you the truth and there still be major mechanical problems. My bus had a new looking tailpipe out the back. When i crawled under it i found the whole pipe rusted out on the top.

Trust but verify. Make the deal subject to your approval by inspection by you on arrival. Go for the ride with the guy.

I can't see myself paying $6,000 more for what you were looking for. It is 28' long. Take your time and keep looking. Good luck!

And the first half of that sentence he said "Called and talked the dealership"

The big yellow sign kind of hints that way, doesn't it.

That is a really nice looking bus. I got kind of hooked on the IC fe300s mainly for the engine. (I'm 99% certain that Wikipedia states that all of this model bus came with a DT466). What's your Thomas have, and what model of bus is that?

When i want a fight i go to the political forums.
My point was, the photos in the first post showed it was a dealer, but everyone was trying to figure out if it was a dealer. That is it.
Sorry i bothered you.

No bother. It strikes me funny when I see things like this where the answer is clearly in the first post, yet no one reads the full post before answering.

What year did the IC FE300 production begin?

Tjis is taken from Wikipedia.

The IC FE was introduced in 1990 as the*Ward Senatorand later as the*AmTran Genesiswith gradual updates (1992, 1995, 1998, 2005, 200.

In April 2010, IC Bus removed the IC FE product literature from its website as dealers announced its discontinuation.

Due to its chassis design, the FE-Series was only sold with inline-six engines (300-series designation)

Right. I've owned an International 3900FC aka Genesis aka Senator.
But the way you're wording it sounds like you're looking for a late model, not a Genesis.
92-03 would be the range of years I'd consider.

That's probably because I'm an idiot. It wasn't until this exact moment that I actually connected the dots that those other busses are the same bus. I've probably been looking at only the late model buses like the one in the ad because I can recognize them easily. Honestly I'm still really confused on how all the model designation works with buses.

So if I wanted to get an earlier version of this bus is it a "Genesis FE 300" instead of an "IC FE 300"?

Genesis were all FE. So were Ward Senators.

Bus manufacturers often merge or get bought out..

in the case of the 'IC'.. the progression is Ward Became Amtran, Amtran became IC...

Ward was its own company at one time.. their FE(FE meaning flat nose front engine) product from what i can tell only ever had international inline 6 engines in them... the ward CE (front engine with a hood.. or dognose) had ford chassis and chevy chassis available...

once AmTran, they were only ever international Powered..

so Looking at a WARD senator or an AmTran Genesis or an IC FE(much later.. 05 I believe).. so any front engine flat nose bus that is a Ward, an AmTran, or an IC (some just say International on them) are variants of the same bus.. obviously with some changes where and there as they evolved..
