Thoughts of converting a skoolie into a mobile comand center

Was wondering if anyone has seen this or helped do one?
Some of the people in my local union want to try it for use throughout the county.
Feel free to tell us were nuts or that this maybe a do able project.

Police forces make surveillance vehicals out of regular vans, why couldn't a command bus exist? You'd have to have QUITE a bit of equipment before the bus couldn't handle it. I don't see any reason why it coud not be done. Depending on how much & what type of equipment you are putting in, you will need to consider what style of bus you need, i.e. interior height, length, basement storage options, etc.

Can it be done? Absolutely! And I, for one, would like to see how it goes! Please keep us posted!

It's all about the flashing lights!!!

A lot of older fire trucks are in pretty rough shape, but they look great because they have lots of fancy flashing lights.

It would cost a good deal of $$$ to totally deck out a skoolie with lights, but it would be cool. Strobes, oscillators, rotators, LED's, headlight flashers ect

A nice paint job can be done for a reasonable price. A skoolie is not only cheaper, but it can go a lot more places than a city bus or a tour bus with it's higher ground clearance.

You could put all kinds of stuff inside. A few mobile radios(vhf,uhf,800mhz) , multiple telephone lines, lot's of portable radios with chargers, desks, chairs, computers with cat 5 cable throughout or a secure wireless network, ect.......

I think it sounds like a fun project. You could build a skoolie with someone elses money.

A big tube bumper on the front end sure would be cool. you never know when you might need to push an abandoned vehicle out of the way during a natural disaster or some other emergency.

While I was at the Oklahoma Department of Safety getting my new CDL manual, I saw two flat nose busses that the Oklahoma Highway Patrol has made into Mobile Command Centers. From the outside they look pretty sweet. I wasn't in the position to tell you what make and model they were, but they looked good.

I'm sure that you can make a skoolie into a mobile command post. While I was in N.Y.C. last week, I saw a conventional bus that was converted to one. It looked like it had communications gear and some SWAT equipment in it.

I didn't get a picture of it because I didn't have a camera with me. It did look neat though.
