Tilt out?

Has anyone ever installed a tiltout in a bus? I am thinking 3-4 feet wide and 11 feet long.

I think he means a slider (slide-out),

Do you mean like a side panel that folds out to a tent, like a popup camper?

A few of the older travel trailers had an actual "tilt" out. Similar to a slide out with hard walls and windows but it just tipped out on hinges.
Here's an example

Never saw one of those, on our last camping trip I did see a pup up with a slide out.

I saw a "4 season" trailer with one once. It looked a bit better than the example I showed. Instead of the odd shape it was more of just a round corner to accommodate the swing motion.
Btw, typically a 4 season trailer is kind of a mix between a mobile home and a trailer. It looks like a travel trailer but isn't self contained and needs hookups, no tanks

Just my opinion, but you're not gaining anything, other than a larger open space, by adding a tip out. The space it takes up on the footprint, went folded in, cannot be used for anything else. I considered tip outs and slide outs myself, but moved away from the idea due to what I actually had to sacrifice to make it work. Other accommodations have to be downsized, or scrapped all together, in order to make it work.

But, if you're just looking to gain that "wide open spaces" feel, its a great option. Deffinetly something to consider, though.

RyanM, like you I have seen many slide outs that seem only to offer a larger foot print. This doesn't have to be the case. For example, the slide out in my tiny motor home allows me the comfort of a full queen size bed where only a camp cot would have fit otherwise. Further, while traveling with the slide in, the slide out forms a handy storage place for things like camp chairs, folded bedding, a folding table and other usually unwieldy items. Jack

Thanks! Good advice on both sides of the fence. If I decided to do this how much/what kind of structural modifications would have to be done to the bus? Removing a 10' section of steel from the side of a bus is gonna hurt!
