Checked it out today. Rode great. Some small rust through spots. Underside is really scaley, but not horrendous. Does have an ABS sensor light on. Should I be worried?

ABS light usually come on because there's excess dirt and grime packed in the tone ring or on the end of the sensor. That part rarely gets hit when washing. A pressure washer should tare of it.
Less often than that it is a bad sensor or broken tone ring.

Who here owns one of this make/model? The reason I ask is that I walked away from on on the Eastern Shore of MD this fall because it looked like engine access/maintenance would be such a pain in the butt from the side access panels. Is that the way of it?

I'm still holding out for that mythical Thomas.

i have the re200 basically same engine compartment. i can basically climb all the way in there if i wanted (pretty roomy). there are fold up rain blockers on the bottom that enable you to actually walk into the compartments and be out of the weather if it is nasty out. this puts the engine right at chest and eye level for working on it. there is a back panel that can be removed to access the radiator.

I literally have the same bus. It's actually a pretty decent bus to work on; mine's been tight as a drum. And, shockingly enough, my escape hatches don't leak, save for a couple of missing rivets

Supposedly sold. Very rusty underneath and multiple rust through spots on the body. Would have been a good parts bus, but other than that.....

I bought it. Jason G., I hope you weren't about to buy it. The dealer said he would take it to an auction if it didn't sell today or tomorrow. I hope you'll find the right bus.

Thanks to everybody on this thread for the information. It made me feel like I almost knew what I was doing.

My wife and I had considered buying a travel trailer or a motor home. Yesterday, she watched some videos of motor homes crashing, and we looked at prices on towing vehicles. Tonight we own a safe, cheap bus.

The first order of business for my kids was playing with the PA system, which they never get to do at school.

Hey, good luck. I test drove it and it ran great. I was just worried about all the rust underneath. Wasn't ready to pull the trigger so all good. I am checking out some others. I am not sold on the flat nosed. Just want a clean, good running bus. Love to see what you do with it!

Any bus you get in the Northeast or Rust Belt is going to have rust issues. Kentucky, Tennessee, Colorado, or any of the high desert states are going to be pretty well rust free.

Hey Scooternj, I expect rust, doesn't mean I have to buy it. Rust through and heavy rust underneath is a deal breaker for me. I don't have the skills to repair that kind of rust nor would I really want to. Just personal preference. I don't expect pristine, but I won't risk my money on a rust bucket either.
