Check the floor around the drivers seat as well as the rear axle.

i haven't checked it out because i am working on my bus, talked to the guy yesterday and he said hed let it go for 2k, just doesn't have any where to store it and needs it gone. i am debating buying it for the spare parts alone or just to try and resell. my bus is re200 wondering tires and rims same size. they almost worth that alone. not to mention the engine. i shouldn't have 2 buses though!

The guy got it in a trade from a local school district or something along those lines. It was on ebay, but apparently the winner never paid so now hes dumping it on craigslist. I asked about maintenance logs, rust and the transmission model and he told me he didn't feel like answering and wasting his time...

So it could be a steal but tread carefully!

Sketchy dude

Guys named Bert and Brian are selling it. I had cash in hand and am an hour away. Wanted some simple questions answered first and they would not answer. "Come Check it out." "Runs the balls" "I believe all Maintenance is up-to-date" is about all I got out of them. I am passing on it. If a guy can't give you some honest answers before you driving to check it out, they are a bit sketchy to me.

Hey Ol' Trunt, What would I need to look at on the rear axle and drivers area?

Thanks!

In the sellers pics the rear wheels and axle stun and lugs look quite rusty. I'd be concerned about rusty "U" bolts, broken spring leaves and hangers along with rusty brake lines.

I wonder if the ebay buyer took one look and ran?

Thanks

I'm close enough that I am gong to check it out. Hate to think I missed a steal. Any transmissions I should stay away from? Thanks for the pointers.

Even for parts, that's the deal of the century. The rubber alone is worth about $5K.

let us know what you find out if you go check it out! man i still trying to find good enough reason to have 2 buses... lol. i need a couple tires and those seem to be in great shape. and random parts exactly. i would hate to part out a running rig though. then i have skeleton in yard. specially when it just passed inspection. maybe get it strip out just seats, swap tires and use for storage / future skoolie to work and then sell.

That's just silly. You don't need a good reason to have more than one bus...or 4 or 5.

At what point does reason enter into bus ownership?

Judging from the opinions of all the people I know, it actually exits just before you make the decision to buy a bus...

I'm brand new to this forum, and haven't bought my bus yet (still in planning stages). Quick question.... I found a bus for sale that is a 1999 Amtran Genesis . It has 22,718 miles on it. Runs on diesel fuel. 84 seats. Chassis - IHC. Engine - DT466. And it's only $6,400 through a dealer. To me that seems like a steal. What's wrong? Like I said, I'm just barely in the door and learning about the different kinds of buses out there and have very little idea what to look for in purchasing one. I hope to buy one in Apr, May, June (at the latest. So, I'm spending the winter studying up. Any thoughts on this particular bus? Thanks!

put this in a thread of its own. it totally out of place here. youll get better feed back that way.
sounds like engine is a score w low miles, but i think that is expensive for that old of rig

weight?

It says the GVW is 30k. Would being over 26k cause problems for licensing or registration? Reading Maine's statute, I can't tell if the "personal use" provision for a Class C license trumps the 26k pound maximum.

Did they buy it and then find out they couldn't drive it without a CDL?
