Towing $150 an hour

I drive a truck for a living and I broke down on Interstate 80 last week (serpentine belt broke from siezed air conditioner compressor). While I was riding with the tow truck driver I asked him how much they charge. $150 an hour from the time he starts thinking about towing your vehicle, driving to you, towing and delivering the vehicle to where you want it to go. I was pretty nonchalant about it - not my truck or my towing bill.

I did get to thinking that as part of trip planning I might want to research a few towing services and shops along the route and keep a list in the vehicle for that trip.

Good Sam appears to be a pretty good way to go. Anyone have any insight to whether they cover converted buses as well?

Pretty cheap too, at 80-110 a year.

Just got coach-net. heard good things about them. lil more than good sams but well worth it. They have service in Mexico and canada ;)
Local people here too. ( i mean the states) I called good sams and it seemed foriegn too me. they kept asking me to sign up. kind of a turn off to me.
They even honor all your other cars too. 90.00 for the year. coach-net.com

Re: Towing $150 an hour

I signed up for good sam last week. Taking the first trip this coming weekend, so it's just more insurance. I can easily see a tow bill being in excess of $500.00

Re: Towing $150 an hour

I used to tow...not counting a 450+ mile (each way) multiday saga for a stranded shuttle bus, the biggest single bill I recall was a bit over $1000 (Navigator went over an embankment dodging a deer and almost ended up in a creek)...I was there several hours & towed it 15 miles when I finally got it out. (And I must confess I'm rather proud of the fact I didn't so much as scratch it pulling it out!)
