Re: towing with skoolie -

lets not get to generic sounding with 5spds

example: you can not tow an isuzu amigo, trooper, pup etc with the MUA5 4 down or rear wheels down, w/o disconnecting the rear drive shaft

this is due to a roller bearing on the transmission output into the t-case upon which the "main gear" spins (lay means terms and easiest explanation)

you will kill bearing, which will lock up and vehicle will think it's between low/hi range...not pretty with wheels locked up and smoke, easy fix :wink"
for folks with extra parts (2 different teeth counts and no vin differences)

ooopss long tangent with way too much TMI

back to regular programming and I need to check beef jerky

That's why I stated "check with manufacturer." Not every 5-speed vehicle can be towed 4 down.

Re: towing with skoolie -

manufactures don't always know...the Isuzu thing took years for it to come out...why?

no one towed them

they always did the towing back then...in the old days...Remember the 90's ?

I own a Isuzu Amigo and Isuzu and everyone I have talked to says "NO TOW". I can not find a single article stating that it can be done. Where is your info coming from?

I said it couldnt be done, with out taking loose driveshaft (not typical of 99.999999999999999999999% of people towing one

and as for T-Case issues? I have rebuilt enough of them because of rust on said roller bearing, no oil from towing and general stuff like low range gear swaps, and swapping slip yoke rear cases for fixed yoke and even a dual case setup

Lisa and I have owned and used/abused Isuzu's off road for 15 years, even raced them for a few years

so Like I said...........YOU CAN NOT TOW 4 DOWN!!!!!! Unless you take rear drive shaft loose and ensure front hubs are unlocked or if you have drive flanges up front (gotta take them loose)

And I also have support of the BEST Isuzu mechanic in the USA at my disposal

When I say the best, I mean it...he was the first American to go to Japan to learn about them, and came back and trained every Isuzu truck mechanic to work on these things

If you need any OEM parts, PM me and I will get you in contact with him, he bought out several dealers when they shut down

ALSO check out Planetisuzoo.com it was started 10/11 years ago after we all gave up on 4x4wire, it's free and more Isuzu info is there than anywhere on the planet

Sorry for long rant

Re: towing with skoolie -

I love my 1990 Amigo although I have no need to tow it. Wish more people were aware of what you stated because a lot of people would tow but don't know it is possible.

My Amigo was bought by me in 1994 and has been through 3 of my kids so you know it is a tough little ride. Other than routine maintenance it requires a starter about every two and a half years. Mine has the hard top and is silver/gray in color. It is a fun ride to drive and I LOVE IT.

Thanks for the info I will pass it along.
