Wanna see a really nice conversion?

I think I posted links to this at that 'Other' skoolie place....but here I can actually post the pictures. This came to our shop last year, the owner let me take some pictures of it. It's a converted transit style skoolie that is FIRST CLASS all the way through....

That's a nice conversion though I'm not too crazy about those stainless doors on the compartments. The wheels however I love; I'll have to get a set of those for my bus for sure!

Hard to tell from photos but that entry door upper window sure looks on the small side; maybe from the driver's seat it's not all bad.

Overall it looks pretty darn nice.

I thought the window was too small too.... even from the inside. I did see inside this unit, but that was before the owner said I could snap off a couple of pictures....while it was being serviced I took the liberty of poking around. I sure did get a lot of good ideas from this bus. When I looked into those storage bays, and looked up, I saw he had stuffed insulation between all the floor joists, silver backing faced down, and a couple runs of sliver metal tape to keep things from falling down. It was simplicity at it's best!! All the plumbing was inside these insulated compartments too...

I sure didn't like that GMC's method for servicing the motor. The bed was on gas lift shocks, and flipped up to reveal the rear engine. The radiator was in the very rear, so the mechanic had to crawl under the bus and stand up inside the engine compartment....they flipped open the bed so he would have head room in there!! On look at this set-up and I learned to appreciate my Saf-T-Liner a whole lot more!!!

As for the cargo doors, the other side looks a little better as he's got the stainless all the way down (and that would be my bus in the background)....

Funny you should mention insulating from underneath. I was thinking about doing the same thing. I have rigid insulation that I thought I could use. It would be a shame to eat up headroom insulating from the inside if the outside would work just as well. Here is a picture from under my bus.

Ah! Thanks for the hi-res photos.

It does look better on the other side. Looks like he either knew someone where he could get those truck boxes for a good price or he just spent the bucks.

On my dog-nose Blue Bird this would work really nicely. On my pusher flat-nose Thomas there is so much stuff under there (hoses galore down the center, under bus storage bays, fuel tank, air tanks, etc) that I couldn't even get at the underside to remove the seat bolt nuts. Seems like a great way to go if you have the right setup.
