Water heater placement

So I,m working on a location for the water heater. The most common locale is floor level but I,m not hot on the idea of cutting a big hole in the side and cutting the rub rails. So I had a big idea. How about locating the water heater in one of the window openings I blocked out. Build a shelf to take the weight of the heater on the inside.
This puts the heater above face level outside the bus and puts it above harms way in a collision.
Any thoughts?

Can't think of any reason that wouldn't work. One less hole in the side is a good thing.
