What colour to paint rims?

What colour should I paint my ugly rims (rear) and rusty beauty rings(front)? I'm leaning towards the Rustoleum Hammered black (it's what the bumpers are and the lower rub rail will also be the Hammered Black) or should I paint them in the Rustoleum Hammered Copper?

This is what I have so far (need to finish making new gaskets and hook back up the lights, not to mention install the mirrors again). You can see how we are going to paint to rub rails on the sides. We still have to pull the huge ding out of the sidewall under the drivers window. That's why it didn't get painted farther down.

Black would work fine, but might look a little "plain" against the body paint scheme. So I second the vote for copper.

Given the size of the dent behind the bumper, is there anything left of what hit your bus?

Flat-black, something that won't get destroyed by debris, brake dust, and tremendous heat. (I used header paint.)

The bus used to be used to ferry rafters to/from the whitewater rivers in GA, NC & TN (bus belonged to a whitewater rafting outfit in Long Creek SC, not far from one of our former homes). If you had ever seen how those folks drove you would think the poor bus got off easy. There seems to have been a few collisions with immovable objects. I think we will end up backing the bus up a couple of feet, get out one of the ratcheting cargo straps, wrap it around the tree next to the bus and loop it around the bottom rail and start ratcheting. the dent is in a area with nothing behind the side wall (attached that is). The access door is fairly straight once the door is opened up. It has to be racked in order to stay latched shut.

Re: What colour to paint rims?

Hey Lorna, when are you going to start a thread for your build? I think this is the first pic I've seen of your bus other than that small grainy pic at the Walmart....

Re: What colour to paint rims?

You can see pics of what I've done at the website under my sig...
http://aluminumasylum.webs.com/
and on more on photobucket (I take pics but haven't taken the time to put word to the pics, so they sit on my photobucket page)
http://s570.photobucket.com/albums/s...%20Conversion/

Looks like we will just do what we have to do to get into it and then move to Roswell and finish it there. The $$ are drying up here. So our goal is to put a tankless water heater in the food cart (Eccotemp L5... buy), a tankless water heater in the bus (Eccotemp L12... buy), put in the galley (build cabinets and buy one refrigerator) and bathroom plus build one closet, strap the tanks under the bus, put a quick connect on the LP line, set up the heat exchanger and the air conditioner (buy). Gotta get going (literally) before we get stuck here.

Re: What colour to paint rims?

Just ordered the L5 tankless heater for the cart this evening. Should be here by July 11th (or sooner). We are going to see how it works on the cart. We are considering this unit for the bus as its $115 (free ship) and the FV-12 is $269 (free ship).

Still haven't decided on the rims. Told David so far the overwhelming vote is for the Hammered Copper. I bet that I will end up painting one side one colour and the other side the other just to see which looks best. Paint, paint, paint...

Re: What colour to paint rims?

More paint and still haven't decided what colour to paint the rims.....
I do like how the refrigerator vent blends into the side

And Here's the shower window installed. Still have topaint this side..

And I got that little "ding" pulled out at the bottom rub rail under the drivers window. Took me a couple of 2X4's and 5 of my bar clamps. Those rub rails are beefy! They had to of hit a tree stump and kept on going. Up side was that once we pulled the compartment door off, it wasn't bent. That door will be moved and used elsewhere. Since nothing is really under there in the area (under the drivers seat) we will paint a sheet of metal and screw it on in case we ever need to remove it to get the the grounding posts.

I need to get the rest of the stuff on the front (lights etc) and get a pic up of it. It's all Turquoise now.

Re: What colour to paint rims?

I think the rims could be copper or black. Turquoise or white would be a bit much I think. Your original plan of using copper on the rims still sounds like the best option to me. Or you could use a hammered silver or chrome looking paint. That's what I'm planning to do on mine.
