Question Whats the longest School buses around?

Hello!

Were Looking to buy the Longest school bus possible!

So far Ive seen only 72 passenger buses, I think Ive seen a 84 online somewhere? Just wondering if that's as big as they get.

Thanks!

PS: If you know of any long diesel front engine buses, within driving distance of British Columbia, Canada let us know

The longest school bus is 40' (in the USA, anyway) the bus with the most livable space with a front engine would be a transit style (flat front). With a conventional (dog nosed) I think 72- 74 pax is about the limit. With a transit style I think 84 pax is the limit.
The windows will help you figure out the length. 1 window is about 30"
Each window is a row.
Each row is rated for 6 kids.
So a 12 row dog nosed bus is 72 pax.
A 14 row flat front is 84 pax.

Hope that helps.

My 40 footer has 14 rows and is "only" rated for 78 passengers. Little booger pickin passengers, at that.

Yeah, then there are all the variations. Lol
Those Wards are nice busses.
The early 2000 amtrans rear engine busses are the same way. The last bit of bus is the engine cover and air scoops. But I just laid out a general guide that was given to me when I was first looking at busses.

Some 40 footers are 15 rows. Depends on the window width. A lot of AmTrans have a window or two that are wider than the rest.

40 foot maximum legal length as others have said. If you're looking for biggest amount of interior space FE dognose buses are your best bet.

Bluebird had a 90 passenger version of the TC2000 & All American that is fairly popular.

At my company we have a lot of 82 pax AAs that are the same length as a 90 pax, the only difference is the half seats on either end of the bus which knock it down to 82 passenger capacity.

Bluebird sells buses in so many different lengths. At my terminal alone we have 52, 72, 76, 78 and 82 passenger All Americans all with different wheelbase lengths.

Actually, the buses with the most usable floor space are the 40' tandem axle Crown and Gillig mid-engine buses. Some of them came from the factory with 16-rows of seats.

With the engine under the floor in the middle there is no dog house up front for the engine or compartment covering the engine in the rear.

The first time I got behind the wheel of a 16-passenger Gillig I thought I wasn't going to be able to see the last row of seats. It was as if the seats were marching out the back of the bus right on down the block without me. It was quite a difference from the 11-row Gillig I was used to driving--same dash, same steering wheel, same controls, but five more rows of seats.

It is amazing how far away the last row of seats look when there are 16-rows behind you.

The question was the longest school bus.

By Federal law, school buses may not be more than 40' long or more than 96" wide.

Transit and coach buses routinely are more than 40' long and almost all are 102" wide. The Prevost H5-60 was 60' long and 102" wide. MAN, Van Hoole, and others make a lot of 102" wide articulated transit buses that are 60' long

More and more transit agencies are opting out of articulated buses in favor of double decker 45' buses. They generally seat as many people as an articulated bus and three double deckers can load/unload in the same space as two articulated buses. The Neoplan NASA double deckers are pretty cool buses but because they are longer than 45' (IIRC they are 47' or 49' long) getting them licensed to run on the public roads can be a challenge.

So yes there are regular buses that have more floor space than a 40' Type 'D' FE bus but they are not school buses.

Long?

Tall!

Short!

I don't like the low height of a city bus, considering my mountainous neighborhood, but I do like those city bus windows. When painted up nice they do pretty much look like RV's.

As easy as I've seen school buses stuck, I'd imagine these are pavement only rigs.
