Hello everybody.
My husband BuSmith and I recently bought our bus. One of the things we are thinking about doing is pulling out some of our current windows and replacing them with one big(long) rv windows. The problem is that we have heard different accounts on how necessary the window supports are. If we knock out two supports and put one big window in the place of the three little windows will that compromise the shell integrity? How do you guys think we should do this? Thanks!
Years ago I removed portions of two roof ribs to install a large RV window in my old 40' Blue Bird. In order to transfer the load I welded two sections of 1-1/2" square steel tube both above and below the cut to form framing for the window. I then riveted some angled plate from the tubes to the remaining ribs for some additional strength.
