That stuff will help reflect heat from the sun away from the metal underneath. Insulating value (R rating) is virtually zero.

Yep, that's right. You can replace 2 inches of (mediocre, possibly moldy) insulation... with 3 inches of quality insulation.

Spacecraft paint? That's not what you need. I have some magic lotion I'll sell you that makes you not feel heat and cold. It was developed by Russian scientists working in a secret bunker on the moon!

I'll say it again...

Having seen the magic pixie dust in action in Houston heat (well over 100) on an 80 year old tin roof...I was thoroughly impressed with its' real world performance. Nothing scientific...just put my hand on the inside (the painted side) and it felt barely above body temperature. Sold me.

I am using the HyTech beads on my rig at a rate of 25% by volume to paint. Two coats.

Magic Pixies can sometimes be your friends.

Oh, I don't question the effectiveness of paint additives. I don't remember who it was, but somebody took pieces of metal and painted them with regular paint, paint with the ceramic beads, paint with sawdust added, etc. Measured temperature on the back side in direct sunlight and concluded that the sawdust was equally as effective as the beads when added to elastomeric, if I recall correctly. What gets me is the marketing claim that this is some kind of "space age technology". Marketing bs drives me nuts. And none of that does a whole lot to contain heat within the bus in winter.

It was me and here's the post: http://www.skoolie.net/forums/f13/in...ease-9291.html The test starts on page 4.

From my experience the HyTech beads (or sawdust, whatever) provide almost zero real insulation. White paint does reflect sunlight, which provides a cooler surface. No 100 micron thick product can provide any noticeable insulation.. It's been proven time and time again. The results people see and feel are due to the sun's light being reflected away instead of being absorbed, which is an important property, but it's not insulation.

Someone should do a similar test to mine, but in the winter and on the inside of their bus..

EDIT: Actually, I forgot that somebody already did do some tests in the winter! http://www.cchrc.org/docs/Insulating_Paint_Final.pdf.

You shut your mouth! It's NASA technology, dammit!

Thanks for doing that test. It's always nice to see actual data and not just conjecture!
