Re: Wood pellet stoves
They require power for the auger, blower and temp control/sensor, etc. The blower must be on to burn properly- it's a forced air combustion system. I don't know how much power they consume. Depends in part how fancy....i.e. thermostatically controlled, auto-ignite (electric heating element to light pellets, ouch!!) Seems to me I saw one that ran off 12v? They work very well, much better and MUCH less labor intensive than wood. BUT if the power goes out, you have no heat. I heated a 2400 s.f. house with one; a 40 lb bag of pellets would last 1+ days.
