Are buses typically like cars where anything made after Aug is the following year model. I see buses manufactured in 10/01 and is listed as 2001 model, is it in fact a 2002 model?

It could be worse than that.

Buses get made from chassis ordered with eng/trans and a VIN. That chassis might take awhile to get delivered, customer order finalized, then added to workflow. Could be 2-3 years, it seems, by looking at dates of parts.
