11 Thomas FE MVP's Oregon

I just caught 11 new listings on govdeals for some Beaverton, Oregon buses. I only looked a couple up and they spit out different engines than listed for some. You would probably have to call to confirm. I'm not sure if its the decoder's or their error.

I looked at several buses from the Beaverton school district. They are a well off school district that takes good care of their fleet. Their equipment is nice and loaded with the good stuff. These most likely all have auto tire chains, and great maintenance records. The contact seller (Beck it think) will answer any questions you may have.

The Sport Bus is gone! So we're down to just one. But this sort of situation is pretty close to how we ended up buying the Wanderlounge. Good bus at a good price and none of the desperately seeking buses buyers to be found.

I need to update my avatar.

I thought someone ran numbers and said they were AT545's, not 3060's. If they are 3060's then they are worth watching.

Nope, just went back looked and they are listed as having 3060's. Dang, more good buses I'd be interested in and they are 3k miles away.

I cant find a bus either!!!!

Seriously, if they were RE I would give it a go, even though I am 99% in the Crown camp at this point.

I think your thinking of the Miami-Dade buses posted on another thread. Most of those had the AT545

Yeah I believe so. I know what they say, but you never know who is listing these things. I've seen lots of mistakes, but the info is probably correct. BTW they added more for 25 total if my quick count is correct.

I’ve got my eye on these, if you guys had to guess what do you think they will go for? Mostly the Cummins powered full-size ones?

I would guess somewhere in the $3K-$6K range.

The older buses with the Cummins 250 HP engine will probably command the highest prices. The Cat powered buses will not sell as well as the Cummins and the newer buses with more smog equipment are not as desirable. The older buses with traps can get the traps taken off and be good to go in most jurisdictions. The greater Portland area has a lot of clean air nazis that I think moved to OR from CA which explains a lot of the nonsense that goes on in the greater Portland area. Portland Public Schools have been 100% propane for years now. It is a good deal for charter bus operators because First Student really doesn't want to run their buses on trips, even within their own district.

Are “traps” the particulate filters? I haven’t heard that before. Are the cat engines just harder to fix when they break down or are they actually considered less reliable? I’ve definitely noticed Oregon and Washington aren’t fa r behind California

Cat hate sort of has its roots in reality but there are good and bad Cats just like every manufacturer.
I like Cat. Their later mechanical engines are a bear to work on and their later emissions stuff sucks but so does everyone's.
I've got a Cat 3126 and after having IC's and Fords this Cat sure seems to be a high quality machine. Folks will say Cats cost more to fix but most of those people have never owned one or paid to fix one. My 2003 IC was ungodly expensive for parts and service. Any bus will be if you can't fix it all yourself.
Bottom line- any pre-emissions engine is decent. Stay away from the later model stuff and its all about equal.

I believe Washington is going to do away with smog checks in 2020, sounds ahead of ca. Of course they were only in a few countries to begin with.

I doubt that will ever happen.

The revenue stream is too great to stop the inspections.

The law requiring emmissions checks expires at the end of 2019.

I will be shocked and amazed if they don't renew/replace it before then.

That said, emmissions checks are only required in the more populous counties. I have not had to have a smog check on a vehicle in almost 25 years.

Hey I also bought one the full sized busses from Beaverton (the Cummins engine) I’m curious how hard it is to remove the traps system from a bus like this?
