1969 Ford Thunderbird!

Hey everyone!
Can't believe I didn't think of this sooner but I have a 1969 Ford Thunderbird for sale right now on Craigslist. I would love to sell it, or trade it in for a school bus, preferably 10-12 windows, good tires, little to no rust, full mechanical order. Would love a flat nose rear engine bus, but honestly not that picky, not too worried about miles or year either. Cummins and Allison totally welcome!

Here's my ad:

Lots of pictures in the ad!

I'm in Cisne, Southern Illinois, PM me here on the forum, respond to this thread, or use CL to respond to me! AMA!
Thank you!!!

Nice car.

I don't know much about old thunderbird pricing, but if it's worth anywhere close to that, you should be looking to trade it for a bus PLUS cash.

Thank you!

I looked around a lot online and the prices seem to vary wildly on 69 Tbirds, so since it runs great and everything, I gave it what runs as a middling price. But now that you mention it, you're right, I posted this late last night and wasn't thinking very clearly.

I'd like to restate that I'd like 12K or bus and enough cash to fill in the blanks. But I WILL negotiate/haggle. My conversion budget is around 10K.

Thanks for suggesting Hemmings! I'll consider putting it in there!

It was a California car, very little rust, a guy who checked out my car came with a magnet and ran it over the edge of the outside checking for rust and bondo LOL! Gave it an A grade.

Shame you already have a project going, I guess I should have reposted this sooner! ahhhh well...

LOL Nice irony...

Ahhh I envy you... I want to start my bus project, I have pretty much enough to buy a bus, got some trips planned this month and next month, but I haven't started my conversion project yet, and selling this car would help a lot with funds...

Lemme ask you: do you think $4000 is outrageous or something? No one seems to be able to afford it, and I've dropped the price below 50% of what Haggerty.com says an average car like this is worth.

Of course everyone wants a bargain, but if you were interested in buying a classic car, would you find this price reasonable? Or am I just being greedy?

One guy who owns his OWN RV park tried to get me to take 1800 for it...

I dont know enough about the 69 birds to know values.. to me it seems reasonable for sure... knowing theres a fair amount of pricey upholstery to do... sourcing the parts for the A/C and such arent too bad.. alot of that stuff is made aftermarket.. the body work is done.. though perhaps a little backwards.. the vinyl top wouldve been pulled and the car painted without it if it were mine.. sometimes there's significant rust under those.. no ideas on yours.. its rust hgelth looks real good in general so id be inclined to say the top is too..

you have to remember there seems to be a couple types that scour CriagsList..

1. those looking for garage sale items at garage sale prices..

2. collectors looking for needles in a haystack at garage sale prices.. collector guys looking to make that next barn-find of a lifetime, $1800 car that ends up being rare and worth 100k are barrett...

the common denominator is garage sale prices..

hemmings, ebay, auto trader, etc are places where people are going to look for cars... every potential DIY owner has their own specialty.. me i can do mechanics well.. so if I come across a car that has a blown engine and wobbly suspension but has a near pefect body and good interior im all over it.. because i got the mechanics skills... but dont turn me loose with a paint gun and a tub of bondo.. it aint gonna be pretty..

its all about matching it up to the right guy or gal who sees what it needs as minor...

my latest project bus.. No rust.. great floors, no special glass broken, still has the hard-to-find parts attached.. but the electrics need a little TLC, the dash plastics are sun-baked to death, needs U jopints amnd a steering box rebuild.. so happens I have a great guy who installs U joints cheap, rebuilds steering boxes cheap... the busses like mine in the junkyards of ohio still have great dash plastics as its cloudy all the time.. so I knew the bus was a match for me..

everyone i know of does similar.,.. find a project that needs what you can provide..
