1990 Crown Super Coach II

What do you all think of this bus?

http://stokesauction.com/photogallery/b ... _3316.html

It's about 36.5 feet long and has a Caterpillar 3208T diesel engine and Allison MT-643 automatic transmission, with 140,100 miles. It's geared for highway driving (Eaton 22123 rear-end, 5.29 gear ratio.) It has leaf-spring/air-bag suspension. But the tires look too small. That may be an optical illusion of the photo. I'll know more when I go see it this Saturday.

I know Crowns are good buses but I'm concerned about availability of parts and mechanics who can work on them. Also I was hoping for a 40 footer. I may want to do a roof raise and slideouts and I'm not sure if that can be done with this bus.

Re: 1990 Crown

You will be must more pleased with a 35 feet bus than a longer bus. Sometimes less is more. I think the most important consideration is price, then cost of bus then your skill level. The information you offered is all good. Crown bus company used mostly production truck parts that are easily available. Only bus parts are sometimes difficult to find. There are body parts available, but usually a good body man can fix damage. Frank

Re: 1990 Crown Super Coach II

I've seen a few of those running around here over the years. I think Crown was trying to transition from round to square body towards the end of the company. They look kind of funny but I'm sure they are just as solid as the older ones.

Sold for $1400.00 (plus buyer's premium, taxes, title transfer, etc., etc., ad nauseum. Wonder what it totaled after the smoke cleared. They're auctioning off another Crown just like this one next month. Hopefully I'll be able to make it to that one.
