1994 RUST FREE blue bird All American RE

I have a 1994 Blue Bird All American RE 8.3/643 auto bus. This was in use last school year and was taken out of service. It is a very nice driving bus and is totally rust free. At this point it is completely unmodified. All seats in tact. All side windows are tinted. There are 5 emergency exits 1 door on each side, back window + 2 roof hatches. It has full under body cargo boxes that span the width of the bus. There are locks for all of the emergency exits and the key that matches them. Cargo boxes lock also.
It appears to have a new water pump, alternator, and Belt tensioner/idler.

This bus is the twin to the bus that Syke is converting currently. It is in just as good of condition and was owned by the same private contract school bus company. The engine was a cummins reman approx 90K miles ago and the reman tag is on the engine. All tires are in great shape. It has a Bostrom Air ride driver's seat as well as Air brakes and Air operated OnSpot Automatic Tire Chains. It shows ariound 200K on the odometer, I will verify when I add pics to the ad.

If you have any questions about the condition of the busses from my area- take a look at Syke's build. He bought his from me.

Re: 1994 RUST FREE blue bird All American RE

Sorry about that. I made the mistake of trying to multi-task while I posted the ad.

The asking price is $6,000.00 and is negotiable within reason, but the engine alone is worth 4500.00 if I remove and sell on a pallet

Thanks! John

Re: 1994 RUST FREE blue bird All American RE

i just found two sites that offer the 8.3 reman engines one for 4500 the other for 4900- one was blueprinted both had all new internals.

If you can get 4500 for a reman with 90K you are better at sales then most.

that stated I am not sure what value you can expect for your bus.

Re: 1994 RUST FREE blue bird All American RE

Thank you for that input- Im not trying to hose anyone- last time I looked for 8.3 takeouts, I was seeing 4500 as a standard price tag. That was a year ago.

As I said- the price on the bus is negotiable- Im a reasonable guy I just dont need an Extra Blue Bird. if 5000 is a more reasonable price- then so be it The price is 5000- but I cant go much lower than that. The thing has a set of auto chains on it that are 1600.00 new.

Dang.
That is my ideal bus if I was not still in the process of selling other toys to fill the bus account I would be all over it.

Re: 1994 RUST FREE blue bird All American RE

Im pretty sure there isnt an hour meter on it. Mileage is all I have to work with-

Here is the deal- Im not a dealer- BUT I have an in with the local bus company- My friend is the manager of the local private company that I have bought them from. Yes I have made a noteable profit- I am able to get them in a package deal for a reasonable price- but it is a buy multiple at a time sort of thing. They are not state owned, so they cannot brand the title to be "Salvage Only" The Oregon State owned busses that have gone up for auction lately have been branded and are not able to be registered again.

All of that being said I have multiple busses currently- one is going to be an engine donor for a vintage crew cab pick- up that I am restoring. Another is the transmission donor for the same- I have decided to eventually use my 98 BB RE with 5.9 and % spd Alison OD as the conversion bus and unload the other two. If I can sell the 8.3 and the alison out of this All American, Then that is what will happen- It would save me some busted knuckles if someone paid me fari price for what the components are worth and drove it away.

As far as the chains- I will discount the bus by 500 if I remove them and E-Bay them. That makes this a 4500.00 bus. This is exactly what Syke paid for his and As far as I know- both Parties were pleased.

I will put together a C-List ad and post the link here- Im not the video guy, but I have taken some photos of the available busses.

Re: 1994 RUST FREE blue bird All American RE

first student busses in oregon are for sale.. like the 96 pusher that they replaced for my brother cause it was just 15 yrs old. It had a detroit, and was a genesis i believe, from coos bay school dist. They sent it back up here for sale.
The state of oregon property division sale, bus that i looked like had a regular title that came with it.
I frequently buy state of oregon, and salvage cars both at the insurance auctions, and occasionally from the state. a salvage title can be transferred to a branded one which will be a good one, you dont even have to fix the vehicle, but some have to be inspected for the vin number... thats all.

Re: 1994 RUST FREE blue bird All American RE

Im not saying ALL are this case- but the ones that have recently sold in my area which were State owned- were "not to be re-registered" Salvage only titles- Thanks you for clarifying this for me- Im no expert- a friend bought a couple in that case as engine donors. A Coos Bay bus isnt likely to be rust free. I recently looked at a 99 freightliner chassis bus from the Oregon coast that had some major rust issues.

Again- thanks to all for the input.

with those kind of hours and 200k miles it looks to be an avg of 19 mph.

also with 10k hours on it, its about 335,000 equivelment

Re: 1994 RUST FREE blue bird All American RE

doing a little reverse math on the statement of equivalent mileage-

Hours X 250MPH = equavalent use. What is the assumed percentage of time that a school bus idles while warming up/ waiting- transferring- etc.

Sure- that is a rock solid conversion formula

that math is pretty much an insult to this bus and a sabotage to the ad. Or just a testament to credibility.

Good Day

correct- it is to keep the back windows clean. They are often seen on older suburbans and such also. Not sure if it was a facory option, but this looks to at least have been dealer installed- not a hack job.

If, as suggested by playing with math(dangerous for me to do), you bus goes 250 MPH then you are gonna need a spoiler to hold that rocket to the road.

seriously though I am curious about the methodology used te calculate"equalavent mileage" care to expand?

Re: 1994 RUST FREE blue bird All American RE

It gets a little hairy at about 175- but smooths out again at around 205. That spoiler really makes it stick to the road.

This is getting a long way from the original classified ad- but I too would like some clarification on equivalent mileage calcs.

Admittedly- I got a bit defensive. I felt that the 2.5 million miles should have at least been a PM- but posted within the classified ad- Sabbotage.

The rig is listed elsewhere- It is being sold in an effort to build the 98 RE.

I just did some looking muself- The cheapest used takeout +core that I could find was 3500+500 core- only 1 of those. Most take-outs were actually 4500+1500 core charge. some of them were even 6000.00- for a take-out

you may have found a chinese reman that could be bought for 4500. What was the core charge? my price is still ballpark.

Yes it is a cummins reman with 90 K on it- but it is an appropriately priced great running engine- that happens to be in a giant yellow crate.

I would dicker on the price- this bus has no rust- it would be a shame to take 3500 for the engine and scrap the bus.

is anyone interested enough to save me the time of scrapping it?

Re: 1994 RUST FREE blue bird All American RE

I maybe speaking out of turn but it is my understanding that the miles/hours equivalent is for calculating service intervals. The point of having an hour meter on commercial or industrial equipment is that they are both needed for calculating preventative maintenance intervals. Especially on a school bus that sees mixed duty they are not equivalent.
