1996 GMC gassers for auction

I just found this website auctioning a bunch of 1996 GMC's with 366ci. engines.

To bad i'm looking for a late 80's / early 90's GMC.
But someone else might appreciate them?

The bids are already hundreds higher than I'd pay, but they look fairly solid.
Any reason you'd pass on these? They look like just your type of bus.

The one I need needs to be from 1990 or older for the Dutch tax issue.
(25 years or older, or I have to pay full roadtax)
1993 is the newest i'm willing to buy.
I can suspend it for 3 years, 6 years might be a bit to much.

I'm also not ready to buy yet, still have to work out a lot of things.
Living in a RV in The Netherlands is pretty much unheard of.
Campings won't let u stay during the winter and police won't let u stay on a public parkinglot.
I think it's even illegal to park it on someones land and live in it. (Not saying I care about that, but still...)
Also have to ask a friend to let me use his space to work on it.
And I still need to sell my racing stuff before having enough budget for the conversion.

So still lots of thing to do but they sure look like the one i'm searching for.

They seem to be what you're looking for. They are rust free as well. I bought my '88 Ford B600 from them and it's still running strong. The auctioneers and the school district are very reputable here in Texas. It's about three hours away from Houston and the Houston Port Authority where it can be driven onto a Drive-On-Drive-Off ferry headed to Europe. California has many gas buses going for auction in the near future as well. 90% are rust free as well.

Well when you decide its time to buy, don't pay too much. The bus you want is one of the MOST affordable to buy.
Now that you've explained the taxes and stuff I see why you're looking for one of these.
FWIW I'd much prefer these GM 366 engines to the Fords.

Yes I thought so.
There are way better options when buying one for in the U.S.
Maybe I should go look for a wife, get a greencard and come to the U.S. instead of going to the U.S. to buy a bus and get it back home. LOL.

I don't really care spending a bit more for the right bus, bit I understand what u are saying.
They are the least desirable models in the U.S. so that's good for me.
But still... when it's time to buy I need to come over to inspect the bus or pay someone to help me so it will cost some more but thats okay.

If you are looking in Texas, I'm just west of Houston. I'm not rich, but I can help if you want. I know quite a bit about shipping as well since I used to drive intermodal containers when I was a trucker. If you look at the San Antonio, Dallas, Austin, and/or Houston area auctions I can be you eyes and ears. I can get you pictures and an accurate assessment of the vehicle you want. I might come back to you about this when i'm ready to buy.

I had 2 replies on my emails i've sent to various campings in my area.
Both can't have a camper staying around the year and the government checks in on them from time to time to keep it that way.
They advised me to check on some farmers who might let me stay on their land.
I'll keep looking.

Thanks for your offer M1031, if anyone ever want to visit Amsterdam or travel through the Netherlands or want me to sent something from Amsterdam (except the illegal stuff) make sure you let me know.

I'll be continuing me search for a good place to stay and keep you guy's posted.

Sure, add me to your friends! The only time I was in Europe was a gas-and-go in Germany (45 minutes) to Saudi Arabia for Desert Shield/Desert Storm. Kinda like to stay State-side after being shot at by Iraqis.... I have no idea what I'd like from The Netherlands..... Cool idea though..... Maybe something for the bus..... That would have to be small since we're downsizing big-time.. Wait, that was an oxymoron.....

I just did some more research on our horrible tax system and I found a way to have a diesel for an affordable (very cheap) roadtax rate!

If I buy one from before 31 December 1987 I can register it as a truck for private use.
That way I have to pay €121,- a year.

It's a bit complicated because recently they changed the law concerning 'oldtimers'.
A car was considered to be an oldtimer (regarding the law) when it was 25 years or older and if so, you don't have to pay tax.
Now with the new law, your car has to be at least 40 years old to be considered an oldtimer.
It was changed because of the damage to the environment. (They say, lol)
But they decided to rule some out for some reason.
-Trucks for private use can still pay the oldtimertax if from 1987 or older.
-cars with gas engines can also still pay oldtimertax if from 1987.
This keeps this way till 2028, in 2028 they are 40 years old and taxfree.
After 2028 all cars and trucks have to be 40 years or older to be considered an oldtimer.
They call it a fade over rate and it is €121,- road tax per year.

Only thing I have to do is make te furniture removable so it can actually be a truck.
At least 50% of the floor has to be loading space to be considered a truck. (Who makes those laws?)
remove the coach, bed and furniture... Here is your truck mr. Government!
So it will be a bus with a diesel engine from 1987 or older.

Now I have to start all over again, bur I'm looking forwarth to it!

You may want to look at some older Crowns.
If you're gonna spend the money to ship it, and it has to be older than that, may as well go with the BEST.

I agree! If you want the best from the early '80's go with Crown. As a matter of fact here's a good dealer in California that has a bunch of Crowns up for sale:

Used School bus - 1989 Crown school bus for sale at Buswest Preowned, California.

He was above my budget, but may be exactly what you are looking for. Give these folks a try and see if they have what you're looking for.

He has more than just the '89 listed. The '89 is just an example.

How much do they go for? It sure looks expensive.
