2004 Carrier Split AC System and More - North Jersey
My wife and I just bought a 2004 chair lift school bus and are starting work on the conversion. One of the first things we took out is the rear AC. The system is a Carrier split system and looks to be in pretty good shape. The shroud over the blower is in decent shape, but does have one or two cracks. I'll try to post some pictures in the next few days
We'll also be taking out the lift and seats, if anyone is interested. Make us an offer if you're looking for these parts.

So, you got any pics of you're new acquisition? I can't actually read, so the pictorials help me understand what's going on. It's a wonder I can type. It's a Festivus miracle.
This is strange weather. It gets to nearly 65 each sunny day with a light frost at night. There should be snow and frozen water lines. This is going to be a bad year for the apple crops.

Well that's a bright and shiny little bus you've got there. As far as conversions go that length is going to take a lot of the work out of it. Still a fun project. Congrats.

nice looking bus!!! one of the things to think about is by removing the rear A/C you may render the front system inoperative as well... many of these busses have the front and rear systems tied together. with only the skirt mounted condensor.. if thats the case you have to source, mount, and plumb a front condensor. so that your dashboard A/C still works.. if you are one of the lucky ones with 2 complete systems then you have it easy to remove the rear system and keep the front.

I may have to move to Oregon....... Was 24F when I started working on the bus this morning. It is almost up to freezing now...

Edit: 4:10pm and we hit a scorching 32F for a high today. I did manage to get the last ceiling panels and about half of the wall panels removed.

That's about the same as same of our hottest summer days. You know, the two weeks of the year when we actually wish we had AC.
It's just about 60 here today, and I'm in the mountains. It's got to be warmer in the valleys. For a while the nights were in the mid 40s but lately I've been noticing frost. A batch of biscuits warms up the bus nicely.

Post some pictures of the AC parts you are removing.
Do you have the ability and a place to load it on a semi?

It's starting to look like I might not be one of the lucky ones. It's hard to get too good of a look in the engine compartment, but it doesn't look like there's room for a second condenser and compressor. I'm curious if anyone's had any luck keeping the skirt condenser but ditching the rear evaporator in order to keep the front operational. Time to do some more reading.

Thanks! Getting a wheelchair accessible shorty was a real blessing. Decent headroom throughout, no wheel well humps, two rows of seats already yanked for wheel chairs, track mounted seats on one side and a side door with a nice, big, sliding window!

you can keep the skirt condensor.. without underhood pics of the lines I cant give you a good analysis, but usually the rear liquid and suction lines are screw fittings into the dashboard system.. ive seen them as easy as unscrew the T fittings out and screw the originals back together... ofcourse it will have to be recharged by gauges and not by weight as its capacity will be different without the rear unit.
