Allison transmission model 640

Allison 640 transmission I just took out of my bus, it's a 3 speed with locking converter that was behind a 427 chevy gas motor so converter may not be right for a diesel, talk to an expert about that, would be great to replace a 545 non locking transmission behind a gas motor, around 150,000 miles, had been completely serviced a while back, worked well but I am changing complete drive train so it's just in the way. Has SAE bellhousing and huge coolant lines so it would be hard to replace a regular transmission but will bolt directly to a chevy motor. drive to Fulton Mo. help me remove it from engine and I will give it to you. sportyrick

definitely a gasser transmission.. dont try to use it on a diesel unless you asre familiar with completely "re-programming" (I use the term because you have to completely adjust the valve body springs and shift point adjusters) as well as get the correct modulator. and a new converter..

from my Spec sheet though the 640 is still supposed to be a 4 speed with Lock-up. so if you are only getting 3 speeds then something is wrong somewhere either internally with the transmission or most likely with the governor (although governor affects all gears and makes it shift extra high if it sticks)..

All I ever counted was 3 and what I thought was a lock up so I don't know about 4.

1-2 is solid. 2-3 unlocked is harder to notice. 3-L is a solid feel as it locks. 3-4 is a good solid drop ..
