Another Crown up on PS

https://www.publicsurplus.com/sms/au...ew?auc=2113995

Is an 8.3 Cummins in an 80's Crown a real thing? It looks like a mid engine bus from here.

Also, how did picture #2 sneak in there?

That's an abomination. Some big brain thought it worthwhile to out think the superb engineers at Crown and shoehorn an upright engine where there obviously isn't room for it. To replace the 6-71 with this is insane. Nothing about this is normal and it goes without saying that it will give nothing but trouble to whoever thinks it worth buying.
No common parts, everything is cut and butchered to fit, and who knows if it even runs, and even if it does, who well and for how long will it continue to run. The body looks like it has lots of rust, and as much as I want to save every Crown possible, this one isn't a Crown anymore, and should be sacrificed to the crusher god. Might as well cut the roof off and make it a giant pickup truck, then you could replace the engine with a proper upright 855, series 60, or Cat 3406, put a box/doghouse around it, and be done with it. That's all this freak is good for, or maybe body parts as a hangar queen.

Crown also used the 8.3, by then called the CT or CTA, in the Series 2 pushers like mine, but those buses are a lot newer then the one you're wondering about.

And no, there never was a pancake underfloor 8.3 from Cummins. The mid-engine Crowns used the old 220 (no turbo) and 262, and the big 855 cu.in. monsters at 290 HP and up, but never a horizontal 8.3. Were oilpans even made for that configuration?

Who knows???
