No matter what "normal" prices are around the country you can COUNT on BGA and their affiliates to be the MOST expensive.
They have 3 BGA locations now. They beat me to a church bus for sale in Howey last year. Bus was $1200. They immediately listed the bus for $19,500.

I didnt know they had 3 locations.. I knew of 2 or 3 different websites... and i believe ive bid against them on busses before.. I think one of their usernames is 'littlebetty'.

ive seen them on govdeals when ive been there,,

again I dont fault them as its a business model.. a bus is worth what someone will pay for it.. if they can sell a $1000 bus for 20k then it must be worth that to someone.,. just like wesee the bidding wars on govedeals for a $1000 bus end up at 9k...

then theres the few that get overlooked.. the great deals which come along and get posted here of people's experiences..

Actually I may have been wrong. A map yesterday seemed to show they had three but I can't find it now.
Yeah, I've bid against em on both the sites too. They have more than one bidder.

there are 2 lots at their main location.. one and one across the street..

there is a tranny shop next door to their main location.. they said they used to have that as a shop but ended up selling it..

there is another bus lot / company right around the corner from them.. ive driven past it when going up there..

at one time they wanted me to go into business with them re-furbing or adding bus A/C units.. many of the A/C busses they get in have non-working A/C that they have to send out to get fixed... I guess bus A/C is big $$ .. A/C is simplistic to me but to many its not.

I just dont have the time to take on anything like that.. I look at how much time is consumed troubleshooting A/C and fixing it on the units ive done for friends, it can eat up a day real quick..

I wouldve accepted being paid in busses as opposed to $$, thats a conversation for another place n time....

There is one on either side of 290, 7k bus sales and 290 bus barn. Both are very overpriced, the bus barn bought all the buses from the cyfair auction before the one where you bought.

Some buses end up a small auctions, my local told me they had just auctioned off 4 for $170 each, with new brakes and tires, fully serviced. Slightly pissed about missing that, it was VERY poorly advertised.

I tried that with my local district and they told me that for legal reasons they can only sell "Government Property" via auction, not direct sales.

Not sure if this is true, or just an answer to get me to go away. Perhaps it depends on the State?

That is what I have been told also and seems to be true.
If it was bought with public tax dollars then it has to be disposed via auction open to the general public.
Or advertised locally for sale to the highest offer.
All meant to prevent "insider/sweet/good o boy deals".

Proof they don't even do anything other than just "middle man" the whole thing-
This is from their site-
Quote:
** Early bird prices are the price of the bus before it gets to FL. You have to pick the bus up at it's current location for that price.
If you want the bus delivered, we figure mileage from where the bus is located.
There is a $25 wire fee for all wires received.
Basically they bid up as high as they need to buy all the buses, then they'll sell em before they even get them "home". Crafty, but doesn't seem like they're doing much for the customer other than driving up the auction prices, and making the customer therefore pay their inflated price.

Heck it makes even my 6k for the dev from them last year look like a bargain. That 24k BlueBird doesn't even have air condition. For that price is better

Could turn out to be a smart plan on their part. If they have the capital to tie up the supply of buses they can corner the market and drive up prices.

For us skoolie owners it will probably mean looking at smaller, more local auctions until the market resets and BGA pulls back.

Those BGA prices are expensive to many of us but it might pocket change for others.

Don't forget the finance plans. Most people are trained to finance anything they want to buy.

But why would they pull back, when they're making money hand over fist??
You made a good point, and one that I'm concerned with-
They're tying up the supply, and jacking the prices. All we have to do is refuse to pay those prices.
Some of us need to buy buses to flip, simply as a public service to other DIY skoolie folks. A used bus should NEVER cost more than the conversion process!

I'd be embarrassed to admit I paid 5-10 times the price for anything, just because I had to have it TODAY.
Their business model is simple- tie up the market and try to dictate the prices so that they can take advantage of gullibility, naivete, and ignorance on the part of the consumer.

Americans are such "consumers" they don't even bother to become educated on what they're consuming. That's where stealerships come in.
