Welcome
For 5 people, huh? Have you got a bus picked out yet? What are your preferences.

What part of the country are you in, or are you willing to travel anywhere to get one?

Have you looked on Public Surplus? Search Tempest does not show any PS auctions.

Welcome and why 95+?
Best bet would this:

Diesel
Pre electronic engine
Auto preferred, no AT545

Perfect bus...choose length...easy

So it sounds like you're looking for a '98 or older. Probably a pusher with lots of ponies, and yes avoid any 545 trans.

If you can narrow down what you're looking for, to fulfill your family's needs, you'll get a fair amount of help from here. You're guaranteed to get a better bus by learning what's good and what's bad. Or if you're an expert, you can help us.

Ha, No expert at all on this subject, just learning...
Not sure on specifics, but in the ball park of...

1. 40 feet'
2. Automatic
3. Need to have a solid engine!
4. Storage
5. On demand water here!
6. 220-300 of useable square feet!
7. And a budget of $5,000-$15,000

That's all I can think of at the moment Robin.
Peace out!

An 84 passenger bus will equate to approximately 240 sq ft of usable interior floor space. A Front Engine (FE) transit style bus will be slightly less than that, due to dog house intrusion.

Most buses now have automatic transmissions as standard equipment.

Water supply can be customized, and, if you're lucky, you'll find one with basement compartments.

Try http://midwesttransit.comm for one source. Mostly, they're around mid-continent.

I got mine from midwest transportation equipment. They are a big on the pricey side but you can get a decent bus out of them. As long as you know what to look for. The price tags listed are not what you should pay. Mine was listed 4500 and i got it for 4000(3700) with everything but plates. Next always check if they have repair/maint history. If they do, you will probably pay more for the bus. Rick is the salesman there. Tell him if you go that you heard about them from this forum...might get you a better deal. Good luck!
