I had a 460 in a 3/4 ton Ford van that I pulled a 20 ft. travel trailer with a number of years ago. Didn't matter, uphill or down loaded or empty, 10 mpg was all I ever got with it.

Unless it's been swapped, that's no 460. The pic of the front clearly shows the "370-4V" badge.
With a slushpump, I'd expect 3-5MPG from the anemic 370.

I had a 1991 Ford pickup with the port fuel injected 460....That's probably the best engine i've ever had in a vehicle. Kept burning tires right off of the rim !
Ton's of power!, acceptable fuel economy, and it was durable. Coulnd't keep it from leaking oil though. 20w/40 slowed the leak considerably though!
That truck would accelerate from 80mph to well over 100 in no time! The spedomoter in that truck would swing all the way around to zero. I loved that truck! Even pulling a grossly overloaded 16 foot enclosed trailer at 80 mph the fuel economy never seemed to change much.
The 460 was THE ambulance motor for a lot of years, before getting replaced by the wimpy, noisy, under-engeneered 7.3 liter power stroke that breaks down all the time. I'm a paramedic and would love to go back to gas motors in our ambulances.
I"m getting a bit off topic....i better stop rambling!

We have a 1992 F-350 wrecker (former AAA truck) at work, with an MPI 460, E4OD automatic, 4.56 gears, & a Liberty wheel-lift. It has NEVER seen the good side of 5.5MPG, & averages about 4.5MPG. It uses MORE gas than the heavier (sling/wheel-lift), less-aerodynamic (stock front end, GMC has push bumper), less-sophisticated (TBI versus MPI) 1987 GMC with no overdrive (TH-475 & 3.91 gears) & more miles. The Ford will pull almost anything, though it won't pull away from the much-heavier 2001 F-550 rollback (275HP PowerStroke diesel/6-speed manualo/4.88 gears/Jerr-Dan ramp).
In an ambulance, a PSD will leave any 460 in the dust...I've seen big F-550's cruise up 4-5% grades at 70-80MPH, & that PSD is barely breaking a sweat.

My only real beef with that F-350 (other than the automatic tranny) was the fuel consumption. Otherwise, a pretty nice truck.

I got my Ford 370-2V on ebay for just under $900! from the great folks at used-bus.com. they where upfront with the poor body condition, but thats all I could afford. It runs frickin great! More dependable in the winder than my Wrangler. If your lookin for a good deal on a starter, I recomend checking out their inventory!

Plotting the next project now. Looking for a clean diesel pusher with low rust/miles. Identical plans with plumming and biodiesel added :)
