Well, they're probably getting to that age when everything starts needing attention. Most folks wouldn't want to put in the amount of effort and money.
That's my guess.

This is the reply from the seller of the BlueBird after asking him about the condition of the engine, tires, generator, etc>

"Engine turns over but doesn't seem to get fuel. Tires have a hundred miles on them. The rest worked before being put in storage."

If I lived and FL and had the money then yes, I would too. Probably going to need to be towed, but may not if the fuel issue is something simple like a clogged filter or something that could be fixed on site. If it has been stored indoors the tires should still be in good shape. Even if some of the interior amenities are broke the systems are all there so you'd be starting with a fully built rv "skoolie" that could be upgraded/repaired. Might not need anything, only a on-site inspection will tell.

Anyone know how capable these are for winter living? Would it need to be gutted and reinsulated?

I assume they are somewhat insulated since they were built as rv's from the factory. Go on the Bluebird Wanderlodge forum, yo should be bale to find out there.

I'd bet its fiberglass funk, can't see why they'd have used anything other. Especially back in the day.

All of the ones I've seen in person here in Florida so far have that fiberglass stuff.
Went and checked this one just to look: https://sarasota.craigslist.org/rvs/5618077956.html

At 10k seems pricey, but he did have full service records mechanically. Older guy, just wants to sell type. Probably could haggle a couple thousand hopefully. Still pricier but this one definitely runs nice

The Wanderlodge scene is full of flippers that buy older units like this, do a few things on it and try to sell for several grand more than it's worth

If you can manage to buy one from the original seller, great. Just don't go giving thousands of dollars away if you don't have to.

I've always LOVE the old Wanderlodges. But after all the work that would be required, I'd just as soon build from a blank slate.

Anyone know what the headspace is in these old WLs? The reason I'm looking is because I don't want to do a roof raise on a skoolie to accommodate the insulation.

Edit: what's this fiberglass funk everyone speaks of?

School buses come with "insulation". Its nasty fiberglass, which is seriously just about worthless at the job.

Here is some doing its thing- gettin moldy.
