For Sale - 1987 Flatnose Diesel - $4000 (REDUCED TO 3,000)

Up for sale is a 1987 flatnose school bus.

3208 Turbo Cat engine, Allison 4 speed automatic, 22.5 tires all in good shape, air brakes, maintained by school district since new before I bought it at harlow's. Ceiling height is 6'5, overall 39' length, all seats have been removed as well as vinyl and plywood flooring- the remaining steel floor has been partially sanded/sealed.

I simply do not have time/energy/resources. It runs perfectly. It is currently in storage costing me money. I think it has about 227k miles on it, would need to read the odo again to verify. I would like to sell it ASAP, all reasonable offers considered. I am in Vancouver, WA. send PM with an email addy for pics.

It is the same one. Ha I love it when grumpy people get caught. Plus you know that if it is in Washington it has been on alot of hills. I would be worried about Transmission issues down the line.

Re: For Sale - 1987 Flatnose Diesel - $4000 or best

Yes, I was grumpy. I get contacted by foreigners a lot from craigslist ads and this particular person e-mailed me several times with questions I thought could be answered if he could have just come in person to see the bus. I figured if he was local, he would come see it. ??? A serious buyer would come see it. I couldn't figure out if he was serious why he didn't come look at it. Or at least be up front with me about his intentions.

In any case, I had to direct this guys e-mails to my spam folder because of the continuous harassment. he even tried to send me stuff with attachments, which I refused to open because of viruses. If I had not deleted them all, I would post them here or forward them to whoever here questions why I was irked with this guy.

On a side note, if anyone cares to know, he re-typed my last e-mail to him. Here are all of my e-mails copied and pasted to him with full headers. So we have a troll here that is trying to cause trouble. Nice.

Hi, It's a Thomas type D School bus(flatnose), 3208 Turbo Cat engine, Allison 4 speed automatic, 22.5 tires all in good shape, air brakes, maintained by school district since new, ceiling height is 6'5, overall 39' length, all seats have been removed as well as vinyl and plywood flooring- the remaining steel floor has been partially sanded/sealed. This would be an ideal candidate for a motorhome conversion. Thanks for inquiring and Ill be happy to answer any other questions that you may have if this sounds like what you are looking for...

The best way for you to make a purchase decision is to see the bus for yourself. I'm available most evenings after 7pm. So, if you are are a serious inquirer (ie- cash in hand) then give me your # and well go from there.

thanx.

NA <nick_abbott@crestviewcable.com> wrote:

Hi Michael,

I have a few more questions for you. I am interested in knowing what the horsepower specs on the engine are, there should be a metal tag somewhere on the motor with it displayed. I am also interested in what model transmission the bus is running, what model 4 speed Allison? Do you know what the rear-ends gear ratio is? The axle gear ratio may well be on a tag inside the bus. Otherwise it will be stamped on a tag on the housing. Do you have any (or all) of the bus's maintenance records form the School District it was purchased from? Oil test records? I am also wondering about the mileage, what makes you think it has 200k on it? Also do you have more pictures available? I would be very interested in seeing more interior/exterior photos and photos of the engine, transmission, trans-axle, tires and break linkages. Of course the more photos the better.

Thanks!

A serious buyer (with cash) would be more concerned with their own inspection of a vehicle. The kind of info you're asking is readily available on the internet. You seem to be trolling craigslist to waste peoples time. This bothers me a bit. I am relieved that this is our last communication. Thank you.

Hello Michael,

Yes. I am a serious buyer (with cash). However I expect a bit more from you as a seller. You seem a bit reluctant to provide the requested information concerning your vehicle. This bothers me a bit. I will look elsewhere. Thank you.

Re: For Sale - 1987 Flatnose Diesel - $4000 or best

I typed the mails from memory. Here is the ONLY attachment I sent you, I believe you "missed the bus" with this "serious buyer".

I expected some questions answered before I drove 5 hours to view your bus, you chose to ignore answering the questions, that bothered me. Maybe you don't really want to sell your bus?

Thanks anyway, I purchased another vehicle that was listed on Craig's List in Sandy, Oregon.

On a lighter note I also just today found three nice RV windows (smoked glass sliders with screens intact) for $25.00 each and a door in very good condition off of a Motohome for $50.00. I plan on cleaning them up this afternoon and posting some photos of them on a website I am putting together to cover my bus conversion. I should have the link up in my Forum sig. in a few more days.

No hard feelings here,

Nick

I deal a lot on craigs list so I can see where this guy is commin from. I'd say probably 9/10 emails are from either scammers or people who ask a lot of questions but aren't really interested.

Did you tell him you were 5 hours away and that's why you wanted to know everything before making the long trip out to him? I'd have probably said the same thing as that guy did based on my past experience with Craigs list.

Yes, I did say I was from central Oregon and I also sent my telephone number! I have never before had to e-mail a photo of the cash to anyone to purchase anything. I got the feeling that something was amiss with the vehicle or that he didn't really want to sell it. There was more to the story then his above misdirected post, he never offered to answer any questions him saying/posting he did is completely false. When I did ask questions he grew offended. I did buy a bus from a guy I e-mailed a few days later, it went smooth, like a normal deal.

Oh well. No hard feelings.

No hard feelings here either.

There is nothing wrong with the bus. If there was I would not have invited him to look at it on more than one email.

The bus is in great shape which is reflected in the asking price. For anyone interested, it has a clear title, and I encourage anyone to inspect/ test drive/ research before you buy (might save some bucks in the long run!)

Here is my pile of cash, I just bought a burrito told them to keep the change

Re: For Sale - 1987 Flatnose Diesel - $4000 (REDUCED TO 3,000)

I have only had two transactions involving Craigslist. In one I sold a push-pull Toyota power steering pump for $40 and it went perfect. The second was a littler scarier to me in that I had to drive all the way to St. Cloud from Eveleth, about a 200 mile trip one way, but in the end I had a 305, TH350 w/ TransGo shift kit, and an NP205 for $600. Whew.

I will happily delete my negative message and perhaps others can do the same in an effort to get this bus sold since clearly is was simply a miscommunication.

Thank you for the courtesy, It didn't sell as I had hoped but somehow I'm relieved. Every time I visit my big Sunshine (bus) I'm still reminded of how much potential she has. If anyone wants her then PM me but for now, I'll be slowly making her better.
