Gillig Transit Bus in Great Shape with DT530!!

This bus is currently on Ebay. 135,000 miles according to hub meter, DT530 engine, likely top notch transmission and paint and body in excellent shape. I would guess 35 foot length, possibly 40. Year is 2005 and it is a Gillig and in Alabama.

Unless it has been repowered I would highly suspect it does NOT have a DT530 engine. Very few applications used IHC engines that are ID'ed as IHC engines unless it is an IC bus or IHC/Navistar truck.

The vintage suggests a Cummins ISL or ISB.

It could also be a Detroit Series 40/50/60. The Series 40 was basically an IHC T444E. The Series 50 is a 4-cylinder version of the Series 60.

A guy I met had a fleet of New Flyers that had been swapped to DT's.
Looks like this one's had the timing cover replaced.

Do you think this bus has only 130K miles as the hub meter suggests. Why would a transit bus be so low?

Lostranger on the Nomadicista forum has a Gillig LF shuttle bus like the one for sale with a DT530 engine (or a Detroit Series 40 - same difference), so yes, Gillig did use those engines for shuttle buses. I've never heard of those engines used in the transit buses, but maybe they did offer them as an option. For a shuttle bus that engine is probably adequate, but not for the rigors of a true transit bus.

If it was a shuttle you have to be careful what gears it has .. it may be a 50 mph bus

I came across a write up on the series 40 a while back and got the idea that Navistar supplied long blocks, minus fuel system, to Detroit.

Detroit added their own fuel system and accessories.

Kind of an odd duck.

The article did not detail the fuel system. It just said that it was provided by Detroit.
