GMC truck 8.2 L turbo Detroit Diesel 1600.00

For sale 1980 Fuel pincher 8.2L turbo in a C60 GMC truck. This won't work for my project so someone might need this. It is too much weight for my minibird with this running gear. The truck which runs very well. I drove it home 150 miles while only a cab and chassis it ran awesome. It ran over a 3500 ft pass like it was on the flat. It was a fire tanker so it has like 88k miles Many school busses use this motor also. Was taken out of service last year. 2000 dollars takes the entire truck drive it home!

You're about 5 hours away, and it would be nice to use that fuel pincher somehow. However I seem to already be truck rich. No fuel pinchers through.
I didn't understand what the "entire truck" was about. Is there more than the cab and frame? Old tanks? Pumps?

Yeah, that would leave less scrap around.

I kind of hate to say it, but the folks I've talked with don't like the 8.2 "fuel pincher" engines. Supposedly they were rather problematic back in the day, especially after racking up some miles and even DD mechanics had difficulty keeping them on the road. This is not personal experience, only that of some local folks I have talked to.

Nothing like keeping old myths alive! This was a light duty diesel motor half or two thirds the weight of the big boys of its day. Its intended use was school busses, delivery vans, and fire trucks. When they were used to plow snow, haul dirt, drive heavy and over loaded they would fail. Their intended to keep the RPM's up instead of being lugged like the heavy duty diesels. Mostly due to over heating and head gaskets problems. I hope one person learned something here. I understand most people on these boards come to rain on others parades. They were for economy not heavy torq

Angry Im new

I miss understood, thought this was a school bus site. If someone had a bad 8.2 and needed a drop in replacement this would be awesome! 88K fleet maintained and runs like a champ for a bus! As I've seen posted many times changing types of power trains is more expensive than changing busses.

Well, that explains a lot. I learned to drive in an old Pete with a so-called 318 Detroit (the 8V92, I think it was) and they liked to rev, too. And as someone who recently picked up an '87 IH with a 9 liter in it, these engines don't work well in heavy applications (and was IH's competitor to the 8.2, the Cat 3208, etc). In the day, it was the "poor man's diesel", for those who did not want to spend the extra on something like a DT466, I suspect the 8.2 was much the same.

fuel pincher

Yes, and far less weight than the heavy duty so easier on fuel!

You are thinking of the 8v71TA commonly referred to as the "318" Detroit as 318hp was a common configuration in OTR trucks.

That line of motors, ranging from the 2-71 to the 16v92 are two stroke motors as opposed to the 8.2 DD which is a four stroke. Very different motors.
